Job description

The ACR Helper/Automatic Plugger Machine Operators primary function is to operate and monitor the Automatic Plugger Machine in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (ACR Department) at Mueller Copper Tube Company, Inc.
The Automatic Plugger machine inserts nitrogen and 2 plastic plugs into 20 feet sections of copper tubing. The sections range from 5/8" to 7/8" in diameter and weigh from 8 to 25 pounds.
The operator is responsible for using an overhead crane to load bundles of tubes into the hopper for the machine, monitor the processing of the copper tubes, placing the plastic plugs in a rack, and moving the finished product to a storage area with the overhead crane.
  1. Operate Automatic Plugger Machine using control panel.

  1. Monitor machine for malfunctions. Contact maintenance department or supervisor in case of malfunction.

  1. Place plugs/caps onto machine rack at waist level. Plugs/caps weigh approximately 1 ounce.

  1. Monitor printer machine and ensure tubes are moved into the holding area.

  1. Remove defective tubes from machine. Requires unilaterally lifting up to 25 pounds. 1 to 15 times per shift.

  1. Pull and push tubes in order to roll and arrange tubes on holding rack for machine. Requires unilateral pushing/pulling force of 10 pounds or less.

  1. Spray aerosol lubricant onto machine.

  1. Removed defective plugs/caps from machine and replace plug.

  1. Document number of tubes processed using paper and pencil.

  1. Use remote control to operate overhead crane.

  1. Place straps in finished product area to move with crane when full.

  1. Unilaterally reach overhead 10-20 times per shift to remove strap from crane hook. Straps weigh approximately 2-3 ounces.
