Job description

Job Title: Machine OperatorJob Description

The Machine Operator sets up and operates PEM and press brake machines to manufacture high-quality metal parts in a fast-paced production environment. This role focuses on accurate machine setup, efficient execution of programmed jobs, and consistent quality checks to ensure parts meet required specifications and on-time delivery targets. The Machine Operator also supports continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, maintains equipment and work areas, and collaborates closely with the team to meet production goals.

Responsibilities
  • Set up PEM and press brake machines and select appropriate part programs to perform assigned bending and forming tasks.
  • Operate press brake bending machines according to the planned production schedule, including setting up the machine, selecting programs, bending parts, and performing quality checks.
  • Pack finished parts onto pallets in an organized and safe manner to prepare them for further processing or shipment.
  • Coordinate daily tasks and production priorities with the Team Leader to meet quality standards and on-time completion of finished goods.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on machines according to scheduled PM times to ensure optimal operating conditions.
  • Measure and inspect manufactured parts to verify dimensions, quality, and functionality against established specifications.
  • Monitor hardware and material usage, and assist in communicating shortages or overages to the Team Leader for replenishment and inventory adjustments.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following workplace safety guidelines and best practices.
  • Ensure all documents, machine setup parameters, and measurement records for parts are accurate, complete, and kept up to date.
  • Assist in compiling production and process data related to special projects or improvement initiatives as requested by the Team Leader.
  • Follow established inventory processes and procedures, ensuring compliance with internal standards and contractual obligations.
  • Evaluate and analyze manufacturing processes and operations, making suggestions for improvement to increase productivity and reduce production costs.
  • Communicate machine status, tooling needs, and part quality issues to the Team Leader in a timely and clear manner.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a manufacturing environment or operating production machinery.
  • Basic computer skills to look up part programs, enter data, and update documentation.
  • Ability to set up and operate production machines safely and accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail when measuring and inspecting parts for quality.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with the Team Leader and team members.
  • Ability to work independently while following established procedures and schedules.
  • Capability to give and receive feedback constructively in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated reliability and commitment to meeting production deadlines and quality standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous press brake operating experience is an asset.
  • Experience working with AMADA press brake machines is an advantage.
  • Technical diploma or related technical education is considered an asset.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to take initiative in daily tasks and process improvements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors.
  • Comfort working in a structured, process-driven manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a sheet metal manufacturing facility where the Machine Operator is responsible for all tasks related to manufactured parts, including monitoring machine conditions, tooling, and operational status. The environment involves regular use of PEM and press brake machines, including pre-programmed bending operations, part measurement, and palletizing of finished goods. Work is performed on a weekday shift schedule, with one shift running from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., Monday to Friday, and another shift running from 3:15 p.m. to 11:45 p.m., Monday to Friday. The facility is transit accessible via local bus routes. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required and provided, including safety-toe work boots, gloves, waist support, wrist straps, ear plugs, and eye protection, along with a boot allowance once employees move into permanent status. The work setting emphasizes safety, organization, and adherence to production timelines, with clear reporting lines to the Sheet Metal Team Leader.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
