Heatcraft Worldwide Refrigeration is a long-standing leader in the world of commercial refrigeration, providing climate-control solutions to customers in more than 70 countries. Their state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in the cities of Stone Mountain and Tifton, Georgia, produce evaporators, condensers, compressor racks, and other top-quality refrigeration products for their five market-leading brands: Bohn, Larkin, Climate Control, Chandler, and InterLink. Heatcraft products are primarily used to preserve food and other perishables in supermarkets, convenience stores, restaurants, warehouses and distribution centers, in addition to other applications such as data centers, pharmaceutical and industrial process cooling.


Location: Stone Mountain-100% Onsite

 As a Product Development Engineer, you will contribute to the design and development of commercial refrigeration equipment—including condensing units, unit coolers, and air-cooled condensers. Responsibilities will include supporting production through maintenance engineering, conducting product investigations in response to customer inquiries, and implementing and testing refrigeration control systems. You will size and select system components such as compressors, valves, air movers, motors, and heat exchangers, as well as design refrigerant piping systems. Additional duties include calculating refrigeration loads based on refrigerant properties, developing test procedures for new units, and qualifying equipment to meet relevant agency certification requirements.

  • Develop and apply advanced mechanical engineering design methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex and advanced technical problems.
  • Liaison between lab and Engineering group, and leading the team in navigating through testing challenges, brainstorming and implementation of solutions for future product testing in the lab.
  • Coordinate the efforts of engineers, CAD designers and technical support staff.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to drive projects to completion.
  • Expected to navigate SAP business system to mine product information.
  • Expected to learn product families.
  • Expected to review literature, patents, and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.
  • Will manage multiple projects/tasks including schedule and goal management.
  • Will lead engineering tasks for multi-stage product development projects.
  • Document best practices for use by peers.
  • Utilize engineering tools/calculations to complete tasks.
  • Interpret safety and performance standards.
  • Expected to select components for electro-mechanical and electronic control systems.
  • Expected to identify/create new engineering tools to increase efficiency.
  • Create plans and initiate requests for the testing of product designs.
  • Create test plans and work closely with lab personnel for Performance/reliability and safety agency (UL, NSF) related testing.
  • Work closely with internal and external customers to understand requirements and translate requirements into engineering actions.
  • Travel: 5-10%.

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is preferred. 
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience in design and development of Refrigeration/HVAC.
  • Experience in HVAC/R systems for design/development and qualification.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles, involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. 
  • Strong technical expert in design, testing and certification of refrigeration systems and understanding of applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to prioritize and work on several projects at the same time and to adhere to project schedules.
  • Ability to work with component suppliers.
  • Ability to work on cross functional teams.
  • Flexible and able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Requires strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical control systems is a plus.
  • Experience with SAP is a plus.
  • CAD experience is a plus.

Compensation: This is a salaried exempt role. We are open to hiring at either a Level II or Level III for this position. The starting salary range for this role and market is between $79,000 - $127,000 annually. Factors that may affect starting salary include geography/market and the skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. Employees in this role are also eligible for an annual bonus in accordance with the terms of the Company’s applicable plan. Employees in this role are not eligible for overtime.
