Job description

Quality Lab Technician

Job Summary:

This position is responsible either for an element of the Quality Assurance program or quality activities within a production area. This position requires the ability to plan, develop and implement a Quality Assurance program including, but not limited to testing procedures, quality standards, methods and workmanship.

  • Performs product testing and analysis utilizing specialized test equipment.
  • Follow Testing procedures known as SN’s (Stabilus Norms) for all required tests.
  • Performs calibration and gage repair, utilizing special software for recording and planning the calibration intervals for all equipment
  • Interacts directly with the customer during customer visits at times.
  • Maintains departmental records of lab test equipment.
  • Responsible for repair and maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Oversees scheduling of tests required for PPAP and series testing.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs product testing utilizing specialized equipment through interpretation of technical documents or verbal instruction.
  • Performs detailed product failure analysis.
  • Performs statistical analysis for department, to include capability studies, gage R&R, and report generation. Responsible for maintaining all test equipment by either minor repairs or outside test equipment supplier.
  • Maintains departmental records, including electronic databases.
  • Maintains professionalism (especially when dealing with customers).
  • Provide assistance to production areas in field of expertise to train or assist in problem solving.
  • Qualified to train in all required test equipment and measurement equipment.

Secondary Job Functions:

  • Limited travel to customer sites, domestic and international, as a point of contact for discussion on product failure and to establish sort activity.
  • Performs gage/test equipment calibration, when needed.

Education, Training, Certifications

Minimum of 5 years Industrial Lab experience either at Stabilus or related industry.

Experience

Must have thorough knowledge of Stabilus product and standard quality control practices. Must have fundamental SPC understanding. Must know proper usage and care of a wide variety of precision measuring instruments. Must be able to read and interpret technical documents. Must have practical mechanical knowledge of all lab test equipment.

Job Knowledge and Skills

  • Software Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word Programs.

  • Must be able to lead others as needed:

1. Training coworkers on departmental procedures and work instructions.

2. Training Quality Auditors on emergency calibrations.

3. Supervising temporary personnel on departmental functions as required.

  • Contact with Others: Must be able to communicate and work with all levels of management.
  • Resourcefulness and Initiative: Follows established guidelines for product testing and calibration. Judgment and problem solving skills are required to perform product failure analysis and to work through non standard issues.
