Location: Home, Arkansas (Teleworker)
Role Overview
Our organization is seeking a Lead AI/ML Engineer to join our team. This role will lead the architecture, design, and development of advanced AI-assisted solutions supporting large-scale modernization efforts. The position will play a critical part in driving automated rule extraction from legacy systems, engineering next-generation AI platforms, and ensuring seamless integration of extracted business logic into modern enterprise environments.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of AI-assisted solutions to extract and document business rules from legacy COBOL/ALC systems.
  • Architect and enhance an AI platform to support automated rule extraction, code comprehension, and traceability pipelines.
  • Ensure 100% rule traceability from extraction through translation into a vendor-neutral business rules repository.
  • Develop, train, and deploy machine learning models and AI agents capable of processing large codebases and legacy logic structures.
  • Maintain and optimize AI/ML platforms, workflows, and environments, including cloud-based ML pipelines and MLOps frameworks.
  • Create scalable, secure, and reliable AI/ML services using technologies such as Python, SQL, and AWS Bedrock.
  • Lead code reviews, architecture reviews, and quality assurance activities to ensure model accuracy and reproducibility.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, data, and business rule teams.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior AI/ML engineers and data scientists.
  • Document models, workflows, datasets, and architectural decisions.
  • Support Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning and backlog refinement.
Required Qualifications
Education: Minimum of 8 years of experience with a BS/BA, 6 years with an MS/MA, or 3 years with a PhD.
Experience:
  • Demonstrated experience developing and deploying AI/ML models for code analysis, natural language processing, or rule extraction.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining ML platforms, MLOps pipelines, or AI agent frameworks in production environments.
  • Proven ability to architect complex systems and lead end-to-end technical efforts.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML solutions with legacy or mainframe-based environments (COBOL, ALC, JCL).
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Experience designing or operating AI/ML workloads in AWS environments, including AWS Bedrock, S3, or Lambda.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with federal healthcare IT environments.
  • Familiarity with business rules management systems (BRMS) or enterprise rules repositories.
  • Experience with automated code analysis platforms or static analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Certifications in AI/ML or cloud architecture (AWS).
