Job description

The Regional Product Manager helps drive portfolio performance across all commercial P&C lines of business within an assigned region. This role assesses portfolio health, identifies opportunities to improve profitability and growth, and delivers analysis and recommendations that impact results. This is a high-visibility role in a newly established product management function, with real influence over regional performance.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage regional portfolio performance jointly with field leadership, including loss ratio, rate adequacy, retention, growth, and mix across all lines of business.
  • Turn analysis into clear, actionable recommendations that influence execution and impact results.
  • Build and implement action plans, project expected outcomes, drive them to completion, then post-monitor results and adjust.
  • Assess portfolio health on an ongoing basis, identifying where the region is winning profitably and where it isn't, and bringing that view into regional strategy and planning.
  • Conduct book dissection, loss analysis, and retention and new business trend analysis to find patterns that don't show up in monthly results. Diagnose growth gaps at various points in the customer lifecycle, and pursue the right fix for each.
  • Ensure product lines are priced competitively and adequately with appropriate risk segmentation. Evaluate rating variables, segments, and coverage structures to find opportunities to improve competitive position and profitability, backed by data and market research.
  • Analyze competitor positioning, market trends, and industry conditions to shape regional strategy.
  • Present regional portfolio results and recommendations to senior leadership on a regular cadence.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Help build out product management's analytical tools, reporting standards, and processes as a founding member of a new department.
  • Contribute to line-specific or vertical deep dives as opportunities arise.
  • Stay current on industry trends and competitive dynamics across the region.
  • Mentor or manage direct reports, if assigned.

Scope:

  • Responsible for portfolio performance across all commercial P&C lines of business within an assigned region or group of states.
  • Shares accountability with field leadership for profitability, growth, retention, and rate adequacy.
  • May serve as an individual contributor or manage up to three direct reports, depending on business needs.
  • Reports to the Head of Product.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Economics, Finance, Math/Actuarial Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field, or a Bachelor's degree with demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting quantitative data to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on that data.
  • Minimum of 5 years of analytical work in a professional setting, with experience in property & casualty insurance.
  • Demonstrated experience monitoring portfolio or product performance, including profitability, growth, and retention metrics, and translating results into recommendations.

Preferred Skills:

  • 7+ years Commercial P&C product management experience across multiple lines of business, with an understanding of market dynamics, competitive positioning, and risk segmentation.
  • Proven ability to devise forward-looking strategies, analyze complex data, and make data-driven decisions to improve portfolio performance.
  • Strong experience partnering with field underwriting or distribution leadership to align on shared goals, address emerging risks, and deliver joint results.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities across multiple lines and states, and to deliver measurable outcomes in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Refined communication skills, with the ability to influence strategy and present portfolio performance reviews to senior leadership.
