What is a Product Management Associate?

A Product Management Associate is an entry-level professional who supports product managers in developing and launching products. They assist with market research, gather and analyze customer feedback, help define product requirements, and coordinate with teams like engineering, design, and marketing. Their role is crucial in ensuring products meet customer needs and business goals. Product Management Associates often use data to inform decisions and help manage the product development lifecycle from concept to launch.

Product Management Associates focus on supporting product development, coordinating teams, and managing product lifecycle tasks. While both roles require analytical skills and collaboration, Associates are more involved in project execution, whereas Analysts concentrate on data-driven insights.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Product Management Associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Product Management Associate, you need a solid understanding of market research, project management, and product lifecycle concepts, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Trello, and analytics platforms, as well as basic knowledge of Agile or Scrum methodologies, is highly valuable. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help you collaborate effectively across teams and drive product initiatives. These skills are critical for aligning product goals with business objectives, ensuring smooth execution, and delivering value to customers.

What are some common challenges faced by Product Management Associates when working with cross-functional teams?

Product Management Associates often collaborate with engineering, design, marketing, and sales teams to ensure a product's success. One common challenge is balancing differing priorities and perspectives—engineers may focus on technical feasibility, while marketers emphasize customer needs. Communicating effectively and aligning these stakeholders around a shared product vision is essential but can be complex. Developing strong interpersonal and negotiation skills will help you navigate these dynamics and drive projects forward.

Job description

Position Summary...What you'll do...Senior Manager, Product Management - Global Business Systems (Walmart Connect) Position Summary Walmart Connect is looking for a strategic, high-growth leader to serve as the Senior Manager of Product Management for Business Systems. In this role, you will lead the internal platforms that serve as the backbone of our multi-billion dollar advertising business. You will lead a large, high-performing team of Product Managers to build and scale the infrastructure that powers both our Managed Service and Self-Service businesses. From the moment an advertiser onboards to the final invoice being processed, your team's work ensures the business operates with precision, speed, and financial integrity. What you'll do:
  • Lead a High-Impact Team: Direct and mentor a large team of Product Managers, driving a culture of technical excellence, product rigor, and professional development.
  • Scale Internal Business Systems: Define the roadmap for our internal tools ecosystem, including CRM and Order Management Systems (OMS), ensuring they effectively support the unique needs of a complex advertising business.
  • Own Account & Identity Governance: Lead the strategy for account creation, onboarding, and lifecycle management. You will oversee the permissions and access architecture for a global network of advertisers, agencies, and technology partners.
  • Modernize Revenue Cycle Management (RCM): Own the end-to-end revenue capture process. You will lead the strategy for accurate invoicing and financial data flow, ensuring our systems can handle the scale of a massive omnichannel business.
  • Operational Efficiency: Bridge the gap between high-touch manual workflows and automated self-service paths, identifying system bottlenecks and implementing scalable software solutions.
What you'll bring:
  • Leadership at Scale: Proven experience managing and developing a significant team of Product Managers in a complex, fast-paced environment.
  • Systems Thinking: A deep understanding of how B2B platforms, financial systems, and ad technology intersect.
  • Cross-Functional Influence: The ability to work across organizational boundaries, specifically with Corporate Engineering and Finance stakeholders, to align data and systems.
  • Problem-Solving Prowess: A track record of taking messy, manual business processes and turning them into streamlined, automated platform features.
  • Financial Acumen: Comfort navigating the complexities of billing, invoicing, and revenue cycle logic within a large-scale enterprise.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 8+ years in Product Management, specifically within B2B systems, FinTech, or AdTech.
  • 3+ years of experience leading and managing a team of Product Managers.
