Job description

Reports To: Director of Operations
Position Summary:
This individual is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, ensuring compliance with ISO 17025 standards, conducting inter-laboratory comparisons, and managing equipment maintenance and calibrations.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
  1. Management Representative:
  • Manage, develop, and maintain the Inc. ISO 9001 and WX Labs ISO 17025 certification and accreditation.
  • Manage relationships with independent test labs, notified bodies, U.S. Army representatives.
  • Coordinate scheduling of product certifications, internal and external audits, supplier visits, etc.
 
  1. Management Reviews:
  • Generate management review reports and maintain meeting schedules.
  • Report on all management review requirements for ISO 17025 and ISO 9001.
  • Follow up on management review action items.
 
  1. Inter-Laboratory Comparisons:
    • Plan and execute inter-laboratory comparison studies to validate the accuracy and reliability of our analytical results.
    • Collaborate with external laboratories to benchmark and improve testing methodologies.
 
  1. Equipment Maintenance and Calibrations:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive schedule for equipment maintenance and calibration.
    • Oversee the calibration and laboratory instruments to maintain accuracy and precision.
    • Address and rectify any issues related to equipment malfunctions.
 
  1. Measurement Uncertainty:
  • Develop and maintain uncertainty budgets for testing requirements outlined in technical specifications.
  • Ensure budgets are reviewed and adjusted based on equipment variability and updated technical specifications.
 
  1. Design & Development:
  • Work with the product development team and provide guidance on required test parameters.
  • Provide product markings as required by technical specifications and desired test parameters of product.
  • Coordinate with product development team on sample requirements and test scheduling to meet expected launch windows.
 
  1. Testing
  • Administer and be able to perform mechanical, environmental, and optical testing parameters as outlined in:
  • ANSI Z87.1
  • MIL-PRF-32432 MCEPS
  • CSA Z94.3
  • AS/NZS 1337.1
  • AS/NZS 1337.6
  • AS/NZS 1067.
  • Certify test results.
  • Work with notified body on specific product certifications required for the Australia / New Zealand market.
  • Stay up to date on current revisions to the MCEPS requirements.
  • Work closely with the U.S. Army in developing test plans.
  • Work with independent laboratories for 2-year APEL certification.
  • Maintain scheduling of 6-month APEL retention testing.
 
  1. Risks & Opportunities:
  • Understand and mitigate risks as required by the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Understand and bring opportunities to fruition i.e.: departmental, organizational, etc.
  • Maintain documented information on risks and opportunities to ensure they are tracked to completion.
 
  1. Internal Audits:
  • Obtain internal auditor training and certification for ISO 17025 and ISO 9001.
  • Coordinate and perform internal audits as required.
  • Report on audit results and ensure required follow-up actions are completed in a timely fashion.
 
  1. Document / Data Control and Recordkeeping
    • Monitor and enhance company and laboratory processes.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documents and records including procedures, process controls, corrective action, KPI’s, quality control data, etc.
  • Suggest and implement improvements based on available data.
  • Follow up on areas that are missing targets.
 
  1. Nonconforming Product, Inspections
  • Perform and document product inspections at various stages, i.e.: Inline, Incoming, etc.
  • Maintain appropriate scrap records/KPI’s and monitor performance.
  • Conduct Lot Acceptance Testing (LAT), including sampling.
  • Maintain nonconforming product process and disposition products as required.
 
  1. Lens Cutting:
    • Monitor and maintain the performance of lens cutting equipment.
    • Inspect finished lenses for quality and accuracy.
 
  1. Staff Training, Development, and Collaboration:
    • Provide training to team on the management systems, ISO 9001 and ISO 17025, and ensure understanding and compliance.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the company and the Lab.
    • Work closely with other departments to ensure seamless integration of processes into overall company operations.

  • Lift up to 30 pounds.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of inter-laboratory comparisons, equipment maintenance, and calibration processes.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in a relevant scientific field. Experience may be substituted for degree.
  • 3+ years of experience in a laboratory or test setting.
  • Strong knowledge of inter-laboratory comparisons, equipment maintenance, and calibration processes.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs
