A little about the position:
Job Summary
The Mold Technician plays a critical role in ensuring that molds remain production ready, structurally sound, and capable of producing high-quality fiberglass shells. Mold Technicians maintain the molds in production ready status. They repair molds and alter molds to fit production needs, In some facilities, Mold Technicians also participate in building new molds from scratch, supporting product development and fleet expansion ready, structurally sound, and capable of producing high-quality fiberglass shells.
Some of What You Will Do:
Perform cosmetic and structural repairs on fiberglass molds, progressing from small surface repair to large refurbishments
• Perform routine mold upkeep
• Cleaning, waxing, buffing and prepping fiberglass molds to maintain smooth, defect-free surfaces and ensure proper release during production.
• Maintain mold floor textures and gelcoat surfaces to preserve finish quality and prevent imperfections in produced pool shells.
• Conduct regular inspections to identify cracks, delamination, wear, warping, or structural degradation.
Skill Progression & Proficiency Levels:
H40 - Apprentice - Learns these skills:
1. Understand and know how to use MSDS
2. Learn small cosmetic repairs
3. Learn large repairs with assistance
4. Learn to properly clean, grind, sand, and buff molds
5. Learn to properly apply release agents to new molds
6. Learn to properly maintain and repair mold floor texture
7. Follow safety procedures
8. Must keep a clean work area
H50 - Intermediate - after learning these skills:
1. Knows how to repair cracks in molds
2. Knows how to do small repairs
3. Can follow initiator catalyst chart for proper curing
4. Assisting with the level out of molds
5. Assisting with splicing together pools
6. Assisting with the alteration of depth of a standard pool
H60 - Advanced - after learning these skills:
1. Able to teach others
2. Can independently level molds
3. Independently evaluates a molds condition
H70 - Expert Level after learning these skills:
1. Keeps track of daily logs
2. Schedules work and meets deadlines
3. Budgets the S&E for Mold
4. Operates all equipment and teaches others the proper use
