Produce Procurement information

What is produce procurement?

Produce procurement is the process of sourcing and purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables for retailers, distributors, or food service companies. This role involves selecting suppliers, negotiating prices, ensuring quality standards, and managing logistics to ensure timely delivery of perishable goods. Professionals in produce procurement must stay updated on market trends, seasonal availability, and food safety regulations. Their goal is to provide high-quality produce at competitive prices while minimizing waste and supply chain disruptions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a produce procurement specialist?

To thrive as a Produce Procurement Specialist, you need expertise in supply chain management, produce quality standards, negotiation, and a background in agriculture or business. Familiarity with procurement software, inventory management systems, and food safety certifications like HACCP is typically required. Strong relationship-building, analytical thinking, and communication skills help you succeed in supplier negotiations and market trend analysis. These abilities are crucial for ensuring consistent product quality, cost-effective purchasing, and reliable supply for retailers or distributors.

What are some common challenges faced in a produce procurement role, and how can they be managed?

Produce procurement professionals often face challenges such as fluctuating market prices, unpredictable supply due to weather events, and ensuring consistent quality from suppliers. To manage these, it's important to develop strong relationships with a diverse network of growers and distributors, stay informed about market trends, and implement efficient quality control processes. Being proactive in communication and negotiation, as well as using technology to track orders and inventory, can help mitigate risks and ensure a steady supply of fresh produce.

Signature Aviation is seeking a highly organized and motivated Procurement Analyst to support the strategic sourcing and contract administration of Ground Support Equipment (GSE), with secondary support for Facilities categories as business needs require. • Support strategic sourcing initiatives for Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and assigned Facilities categories from project initiation through contract execution.
  • Assist in developing sourcing strategies, preparing RFx events, analyzing supplier proposals, and supporting supplier evaluations and negotiations.
  • Prepare bid analyses, financial evaluations, and business recommendations to support sourcing decisions.
  • Draft, review, and support the negotiation of contracts, Statements of Work (SOWs), pricing schedules, amendments, and other commercial documents in partnership with Legal and internal stakeholders.

  • Manage assigned sourcing projects, action items, timelines, and follow-up activities while providing regular status updates to stakeholders.
  • Conduct market research, supplier benchmarking, and spend analysis to support sourcing strategies and procurement recommendations.
  • Support the transition of executed agreements to the appropriate business owner and provide procurement support throughout the contract lifecycle as needed.

  • Support contract administration activities, including amendments, commercial issue resolution, supplier breach concerns, and other procurement-related requests.
  • Execute competitive "quick bid" sourcing events to evaluate pricing, identify competitive alternatives, and support business needs.
  • Prepare executive-ready presentations, summaries, reports, and other procurement documentation that clearly communicate business objectives and recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate procurement documentation and ensure all work products are complete, organized, and thoroughly reviewed prior to submission.

  • Strong understanding of and competency in spend analytics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data, perform financial analyses, and develop meaningful business recommendations.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Experience with procurement and spend analysis systems (e.g., Coupa, SpendHQ) preferred.
