Position Summary

The Custom Cake Designer/Cake Decorator will be responsible for designing, baking support, and fully decorating custom cakes from start to finish. This includes working directly with customers, developing creative concepts, and producing polished, professional-quality cakes that match our bakerys standards.
This is a hands-on decorating role you must be comfortable creating both traditional and complex custom designs.
Key Responsibilities

Cake Design & Customer Orders

  • Design custom cakes based on customer themes, reference photos, and event needs
  • Create sketches or mockups for complex designs
  • Communicate with customers and team to clarify details, flavors, timelines, and expectations
Cake Decorating

  • Decorate cakes using advanced techniques including:
    • Fondant work
    • Buttercream piping
    • Sculpting and carving
    • Airbrushing
    • Edible painting
    • Sugar flowers and detail work
  • Ensure all cakes meet visual and structural quality standards
  • Recreate customer reference images accurately and professionally
Production Support

  • Assist with baking, filling, crumb-coating, and prepping cakes
  • Prepare frostings, fondant, fillings, and decorative elements
  • Maintain accurate timelines for multiple orders at once
Bakery Standards & Safety

  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and food-safe
  • Follow health codes, food safety, and sanitation procedures
  • Properly store ingredients and completed products
  • Ensure all orders are completed, boxed, and ready for pickup/delivery on time
Requirements

Must Have:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in custom cake decorating (professional or boutique bakery)

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow design instructions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to lift 2530 lbs and stand for extended periods

  • Experience with wedding cakes or large tiered cakes
  • Familiarity with specialty diets (gluten-free, vegan, etc.)
  • Digital design/mockup experience (Procreate, Canva, etc.)
  • Culinary or pastry degree/certification
