About the Role;
PROLIM is currently seeking an Engineer Material Process 3 for one of our top client - Northrop Grumman, located in Woodland Hills, California.
This is an exciting opportunity to join Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, where you'll contribute to the development of advanced aerospace and defense technologies supporting mission-critical national security programs.
As a Materials & Process Engineer, you will play a key role in defining engineering requirements, qualifying materials and manufacturing processes, supporting supplier qualification, conducting failure analysis, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure product quality and reliability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the development, selection, and qualification of materials, parts, manufacturing processes, and production technologies.
  • Define engineering requirements for materials and manufacturing processes supporting aerospace products.
  • Qualify new materials, parts, suppliers, and manufacturing processes.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and metallic failure investigations.
  • Perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions for material and process issues.
  • Support supplier qualification audits and resolve technical supplier inquiries.
  • Coordinate laboratory testing including:
  • Metallography
  • Hardness Testing
  • Tensile Testing
  • NDT/NDI
  • Compile and analyze laboratory data for engineering disposition.
  • Develop and revise material specifications, work instructions, engineering procedures, and test plans.
  • Support investigations involving non-conforming materials and supplier deviations.
  • Maintain engineering documentation including test reports and engineering orders.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and design engineering teams.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS, LEAN, Quality, and Northrop Grumman engineering standards.
  • Travel occasionally to supplier facilities, laboratories, and Northrop Grumman locations as required.
     
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or another STEM discipline.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree, 3+ years with a Master's degree, or 1+ year with a PhD.
  • Experience in Aerospace, Defense, or High-Reliability Manufacturing environments.
  • Practical knowledge of:
  • Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metallurgy, Heat Treatment, Corrosion, Fatigue, Materials Testing
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Metallographic Sample Preparation, Cutting, Polishing, Etching, Hardness Testing
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with manufacturing processes including: Machining, Forging, Forming, Welding/Brazing, Fastening, Plating & Coating
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and material specifications.
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Ability to work 100% onsite in Woodland Hills, CA.
  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
     
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active Top Secret Clearance
  • Master's or PhD in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Engineering.
  • Expert knowledge of metallurgy and material behavior.
  • Strong understanding of: Tensile Strength, Hardness, Fatigue, Fracture Toughness, Creep, Stress Rupture, SEM, Spectroscopy, Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI/NDT)
  • Experience with: Forging, Casting, Heat Treating, Fusion Welding, Friction Stir Welding, Electron Beam Welding, Additive Manufacturing, Composite Manufacturing
  • Experience reviewing manufacturing process capability and material performance.
  • Hands-on production manufacturing experience.
  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
