The Senior Analytics & Reporting Specialist is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining underwriting data infrastructure, analytics, and reporting solutions to support underwriting operations and strategic decision-making.
This role combines technical data expertise, underwriting knowledge, and process optimization, supporting the Underwriting Department through advanced analytics, automation, and reporting capabilities.
The Senior Analytics & Reporting Specialist works closely with underwriting, operations, and technology teams to ensure data integrity, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency. They also play a key role in transforming complex datasets into actionable insights, enabling improved pricing, renewal outcomes, and business performance.The Senior Analytics & Reporting Specialist will:

Data Analytics & Reporting

  • Design, develop, and maintain underwriting analytics datasets using SQL Server, Power BI, and Excel

  • Develop and enhance recurring reports, including renewal tracking, claims reporting, and financial performance dashboards

  • Translate large, fragmented datasets into clear, actionable insights for underwriting teams and leadership

  • Identify trends, anomalies, and emerging risks to support proactive underwriting and business decision-making

  • Establish and maintain robust data structures and relationships to ensure accuracy, validation, and auditability of reporting outputs

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Design and optimize workflows across systems including SQL Server, Excel (VBA), MS Access, and SharePoint

  • Reduce manual processes through automation and development of standardized data pipelines

  • Build scalable reporting frameworks (e.g., renewal "master" datasets) to improve turnaround times, consistency, and reliability

  • Troubleshoot and resolve data integrity issues, system discrepancies, and integration challenges across platforms

  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and enhance data accessibility

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Act as a key liaison between underwriting, operations, and technology teams

  • Partner with underwriting teams to deliver tools, reporting, and data solutions that enhance productivity and decision-making

  • Provide training and guidance on reporting tools, data interpretation, and workflow processes

  • Support cross-functional alignment on data definitions, reporting standards, and process improvements

Strategic Initiatives & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve client retention, pricing accuracy, and operational efficiency through data insights

  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives, including system enhancements, data consolidation, and process redesign

Governance, Data Integrity & Controls

  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity of underwriting data across all reporting outputs

  • Support development and maintenance of data governance practices, including validation, audit trails, and documentation

  • Identify and mitigate risks related to data quality, reporting errors, and system limitations

  • Ensure alignment with internal standards and external regulatory reporting requirements

Accountability

In respect of the above duties, the Consultant is expected to:

  • Deliver accurate, timely, and reliable reporting outputs in accordance with established service standards

  • Maintain clear prioritization of tasks and effectively manage multiple concurrent deliverables

  • Provide regular updates to stakeholders on reporting deliverables, data issues, and improvement initiatives

  • Support continuous improvement through proactive identification of opportunities and solutions

To be successful as a Senior Analytics & Reporting Specialist with People Corporation, you will need:
  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics, reporting, and preferably with underwriting support within a group benefits or financial services environment

  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

  • Advanced Excel expertise (5+ years), including complex formulas, Power Query, VBA, and integration with external data sources

  • Strong SQL/database experience (5+ years), including data extraction, transformation, and relational data modeling

  • Experience with MS Access (3+ years), including queries, reporting, and macro development

  • Demonstrated ability to work with large, complex datasets and translate findings into meaningful business insights

  • Strong understanding of group benefits underwriting concepts, including claims, renewals, and financial performance drivers would be an asset

  • Experience designing and implementing automation and reporting frameworks to improve efficiency and scalability

  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with ability to bridge technical and business audiences

  • Familiarity with systems such as CRM and other Third Party Administration system is considered an asset

Salary Range

The base salary for this position is between $95,000 - $105,000 annually.

This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation (i.e. annual bonus, commission etc.). The actual base salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
