Job description

Chief Financial Officer | Specialty P&C Insurance

A privately held specialty insurance organization is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to provide strategic financial leadership through its next phase of growth.

This is an opportunity for a senior insurance finance executive who wants to operate beyond traditional accounting and reporting - partnering directly with senior leadership on growth initiatives, business performance, financial strategy, and the development of a scalable finance organization.

The organization has established a strong operating foundation and is continuing to expand its presence across the specialty insurance market. The CFO will work closely with executive leadership and ownership, providing the financial perspective necessary to evaluate opportunities, improve performance visibility, and support continued growth.

The Opportunity

The CFO will lead an experienced finance organization while serving as a strategic business partner to executive leadership.

Key areas of focus will include:

  • Providing financial leadership and strategic counsel to senior leadership and ownership
  • Developing financial models, forecasts, and business plans to support growth initiatives
  • Partnering with operational and underwriting leadership on performance and economics
  • Improving visibility into financial and operating performance
  • Advising on strategic investments, partnerships, and capital allocation
  • Strengthening financial infrastructure, systems, reporting, and controls
  • Building scalable processes and capabilities to support continued organizational growth
  • Evaluating new business opportunities and providing financial perspective throughout the decision-making process
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Finance & Business Partnership
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and ownership on financial strategy and business decisions
  • Translate financial information into actionable business insights
  • Partner with operational leaders to evaluate performance, opportunities, and long-term economics
  • Develop forecasts, financial models, and business plans supporting strategic initiatives
  • Provide financial analysis and perspective on growth opportunities
Financial Leadership & Infrastructure
  • Lead, develop, and empower the broader finance and accounting organization
  • Oversee accurate and timely financial reporting across multiple operating entities
  • Continue enhancing financial processes, systems, reporting capabilities, and internal controls
  • Establish meaningful KPIs and reporting frameworks to improve decision-making
  • Maintain strong financial discipline while enabling the organization to move quickly
Growth & Enterprise Initiatives
  • Support evaluation and due diligence of new opportunities
  • Partner with leadership on strategic investments, partnerships, and growth initiatives
  • Help develop the financial infrastructure required to support continued expansion
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability, efficiency, and organizational scalability
Ideal Background

The ideal candidate will combine deep insurance finance expertise with strong commercial and strategic judgment.

We are particularly interested in executives with:

  • Prior CFO, Deputy CFO, Division CFO, or equivalent senior finance leadership experience
  • Strong P&C insurance experience
  • Experience leading accounting and finance organizations
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a business partner and strategic advisor, not simply as a financial steward
  • Experience supporting growth, acquisitions, new ventures, or complex multi-entity environments
  • Strong understanding of insurance financial reporting, accounting, and operating economics
Relevant backgrounds may include:
  • Specialty P&C insurance organizations
  • Insurance services businesses
  • Specialty insurance platforms
  • Carrier finance organizations
  • Entrepreneurial or privately held insurance businesses
  • Senior finance leaders who have progressed from technical accounting into broader enterprise leadership
Leadership Profile

The successful candidate will be:

  • Strategic - able to connect financial information to broader business decisions
  • Commercially minded - comfortable discussing growth, profitability, and capital allocation
  • Entrepreneurial - effective in a privately held, growth-oriented environment
  • Collaborative - capable of partnering credibly with underwriting, operations, and executive leadership
  • A builder - energized by improving processes, systems, teams, and infrastructure
  • Executive-level communicator - comfortable serving as a financial voice to ownership and senior leadership

This is a compelling opportunity for a senior insurance finance executive looking for a high-impact CFO seat with meaningful influence over strategy, growth, and the evolution of the broader business.
