Background:

This position supports the discovery, implementation, and sustainment of a ServiceNow suite for a dedicated Department of Defense (DoD) community with significant leadership visibility. The Implementer / Developer will play a critical role in designing, developing, and deploying ServiceNow solutions, with a specific focus on Discovery activities and Configuration Management Database (CMDB) creation and optimization. This role requires technical expertise in ServiceNow development, Discovery, and CMDB architecture to ensure the platform supports operational needs and DoD compliance requirements.

This position is based 4 days onsite/1 day remote.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and configure ServiceNow solutions, with an emphasis on CMDB architecture, Discovery, and Service Mapping
  • Implement and optimize ServiceNow Discovery to identify and populate Configuration Items (CIs), their relationships, and dependencies into the CMDB
  • Develop custom scripts, business rules, and workflows to enhance Discovery processes and integrate CMDB data with other ServiceNow modules
  • Create and maintain CI classes, attributes, relationships, and lifecycle states to align with business and compliance requirements
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements for CMDB and Discovery, translating them into actionable development tasks
  • Integrate ServiceNow with external systems (e.g., monitoring tools, asset management systems) to enrich CMDB data and maintain data accuracy
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to Discovery scans, CMDB population, and integration workflows
  • Develop and implement automated solutions for CMDB data validation, reconciliation, and error correction
  • Create dashboards, reports, and performance metrics to monitor CMDB health, Discovery coverage, and CI data quality
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members on CMDB and Discovery best practices
  • Ensure that all solutions comply with DoD security frameworks, including RMF, NIST 800-171, and CMMC standards
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, providing updates on development progress and contributing to sprint planning and retrospectives

Requirements:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline) or equivalent experience
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a ServiceNow Developer or Implementer, with a strong focus on CMDB and Discovery
    • Proven experience with ServiceNow ITSM and ITOM modules, including Discovery and Service Mapping
    • Experience in DoD or federal environments is highly desirable
  • Certifications:
    • ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) required
    • ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) for Discovery or ITOM strongly preferred
    • ITIL certification is a plus
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Strong understanding of ServiceNow Discovery architecture, including MID Server configuration, CI identification rules, and probes/sensors
    • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., JavaScript, Glide API) and integration methods (e.g., REST/SOAP APIs)
    • Familiarity with network protocols, infrastructure components, and cloud technologies relevant to Discovery and CMDB
    • Experience with Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira or ServiceNow Agile Development
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and implement complex ServiceNow solutions
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams and with stakeholders
    • Proactive and detail-oriented approach to CMDB data quality and process improvement
  • Clearance:
    • Active Security clearance required
