What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Process Simulate Specialist, and why are they important?

To excel as a Process Simulate Specialist, you need a strong background in industrial engineering, manufacturing processes, and 3D simulation, often supported by a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency in Siemens Process Simulate software, knowledge of PLC programming, and familiarity with CAD systems are essential technical requirements. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills set top performers apart in this field. These capabilities are crucial for accurately modeling, optimizing, and communicating complex manufacturing processes, ensuring efficiency and reducing production risks.

What is the difference between Process Simulate vs Process Engineer?

AspectProcess SimulateProcess Engineer
Primary RoleUses simulation software to model manufacturing processesDesigns, develops, and optimizes manufacturing processes
Skills & CertificationsCAD/CAM, simulation software proficiency, technical engineering backgroundProcess design, project management, engineering certifications
Work EnvironmentTypically in software labs or engineering officesFactories, manufacturing plants, engineering offices
Industry UsageUsed by manufacturing and automation companies for process validationEmployed in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace industries for process development

While Process Simulate focuses on modeling and testing manufacturing processes virtually, Process Engineers are responsible for designing and implementing these processes in real-world settings. Both roles require technical expertise, but Process Simulate emphasizes simulation skills, whereas Process Engineers focus on practical process development and optimization.

How does a Process Simulate specialist typically collaborate with engineering and production teams during a project?

A Process Simulate specialist works closely with both engineering and production teams to develop, test, and optimize manufacturing processes in a virtual environment before implementation on the shop floor. This collaboration involves regular meetings to review simulation results, gather feedback on proposed process changes, and ensure alignment with production goals and constraints. Effective communication is key, as the specialist must translate technical simulation data into actionable insights for engineers and operators. Such teamwork helps identify potential bottlenecks, improve efficiency, and reduce costly errors during actual production ramp-up.

What is a Process Simulate engineer?

A Process Simulate engineer specializes in using simulation software—such as Siemens Process Simulate—to design, validate, and optimize manufacturing processes in a virtual environment. Their main tasks include creating digital models of production lines, testing various process scenarios, and identifying improvements before physical implementation. This helps manufacturers save time, reduce costs, and minimize errors by addressing issues early in the design phase. Process Simulate engineers often collaborate closely with production, quality, and design teams to ensure efficient and error-free manufacturing workflows.

Job description

Ensuring Chart's Success...

"Cooler By Design" - Chart's core business is centered around the design and fabrication of cryogenic equipment; so you can see where we get our tagline from, right? Well, yes and no - see, we think the products we design and build are pretty cool too. Also, we're problem solvers. Customers don't come to Chart with an equipment specification, they come to Chart with a challenge. That's where you come in, because someone has to figure it out - all the way from conceptual design to installation and commissioning of equipment on-site. Chart's mission is to provide full solutions across the Nexus of Clean - clean power, clean water, clean food, and clean industrials. The diverse applications we service echo our commitment to sustainability - from providing full hydrogen solutions across the value chain, offering small and industrial scale carbon capture solutions to customers globally, creating water treatment systems responsible for treating 4.5 billion gallons of water per day in the U.S. and delivering clean water to over a billion people worldwide, providing equipment and solutions for mission critical space launches, decarbonizing the marine industry, and electrifying the mining space. Chart even contributes to the food and beverage industry by making some of your favorite carbonated beverages possible - If nitro coffee or nitro ice cream is your thing - well, that's Chart technology too (and it's also cool)!

We are looking to add a Process Engineer to our team in Orem, UT. We would consider candidates who are able to work out of our office across the US, including Allentown, PA, Lacrosse, WI, Orem, UT or The Woodlands, TX.

The Process Engineer begins to take direct engineering responsibility for the conceptual design of Chart process technologies to meet customer requirements.  This person must work well within a small team environment while preparing process information deliverables for the basic engineering design package. This position requires someone who is comfortable operating autonomously with open-ended tasks. You will have the opportunity to interact with every part of the technology development from design of new and novel equipment and experiments to detailed large-scale equipment design, sourcing, and operation. It is intellectually engaging work on complex, unique, and novel problems.

What Will You Do?
  • Support process development for the innovative Cryogenic Carbon Capture technology through Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, and Aspen EDR
  • Simulate steady-state and transient/dynamic processes to describe performance and generate heat and material balances
  • Work with clients and other engineers to develop feasibility, preFEED, and FEED studies to design Cryogenic Carbon Capture plants
  • Prepare process equipment data sheets and equipment lists
  • Prepare Process Flow Diagrams
  • Assist in the development of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
  • Assist in the development of wiring and loop drawings and control system architectural drawings for internal research and development work
  • Provide process data to mechanical engineering counterparts and key vendors for equipment sourcing
  • Check process engineering work performed by other Process and Process I Engineers
  • Assist in the preparation of Start-up and Operating Manuals
  • Participate in experimental work and prototype operation
  • Some travel - 10% or less
  • Develop and implement industrial-grade process control, including model predictive controls and human-machine interfaces, for highly integrated prototype and commercial processes (optional, but preferred)
Your Physical Work Environment Will Require...

The ability to frequently sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
