What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Process Simulate Specialist, and why are they important?

To excel as a Process Simulate Specialist, you need a strong background in industrial engineering, manufacturing processes, and 3D simulation, often supported by a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency in Siemens Process Simulate software, knowledge of PLC programming, and familiarity with CAD systems are essential technical requirements. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills set top performers apart in this field. These capabilities are crucial for accurately modeling, optimizing, and communicating complex manufacturing processes, ensuring efficiency and reducing production risks.

What is the difference between Process Simulate vs Process Engineer?

AspectProcess SimulateProcess Engineer
Primary RoleUses simulation software to model manufacturing processesDesigns, develops, and optimizes manufacturing processes
Skills & CertificationsCAD/CAM, simulation software proficiency, technical engineering backgroundProcess design, project management, engineering certifications
Work EnvironmentTypically in software labs or engineering officesFactories, manufacturing plants, engineering offices
Industry UsageUsed by manufacturing and automation companies for process validationEmployed in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace industries for process development

While Process Simulate focuses on modeling and testing manufacturing processes virtually, Process Engineers are responsible for designing and implementing these processes in real-world settings. Both roles require technical expertise, but Process Simulate emphasizes simulation skills, whereas Process Engineers focus on practical process development and optimization.

How does a Process Simulate specialist typically collaborate with engineering and production teams during a project?

A Process Simulate specialist works closely with both engineering and production teams to develop, test, and optimize manufacturing processes in a virtual environment before implementation on the shop floor. This collaboration involves regular meetings to review simulation results, gather feedback on proposed process changes, and ensure alignment with production goals and constraints. Effective communication is key, as the specialist must translate technical simulation data into actionable insights for engineers and operators. Such teamwork helps identify potential bottlenecks, improve efficiency, and reduce costly errors during actual production ramp-up.

What is a Process Simulate engineer?

A Process Simulate engineer specializes in using simulation software—such as Siemens Process Simulate—to design, validate, and optimize manufacturing processes in a virtual environment. Their main tasks include creating digital models of production lines, testing various process scenarios, and identifying improvements before physical implementation. This helps manufacturers save time, reduce costs, and minimize errors by addressing issues early in the design phase. Process Simulate engineers often collaborate closely with production, quality, and design teams to ensure efficient and error-free manufacturing workflows.

Duration: 6 Months (with potential to extend or transfer to other project locations after the project is completed or chances of being perm)

Type: Full-time, 100% On-Site
Interview Process: 2 rounds of teams interviews. Manager is willing to consider candidates who are not local and willing to relocate at their own expense, but preference will be given to candidates local to Hemlock/Saginaw.
Who Would Be The Ideal Candidate?
A strong contract candidate is a hands-on Chemical Engineer with 3+ years of chemical manufacturing or process engineering experience, strong process safety fundamentals, and practical familiarity with HAZOP/PHA, chemical delivery systems, equipment safety, and OSHA PSM/EHS expectations. They should be comfortable working on-site in a plant/startup environment, collaborating across teams, and supporting commissioning needs. The ideal candidate is also willing to travel domestically to other Corning sites (though not required) and strong performance may create potential consideration for a future Corning role, though not guaranteed.
Overview
Corning is seeking a highly skilled Chemical Engineer to support chemical process safety, equipment readiness, and commissioning activities for the Solar wafers plant in Hemlock, Michigan. This role will help ensure safe design and operation of chemical systems by leading PHA/HAZOP activities, integrating safeguards, and driving action closure with plant, vendor, and cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead or support HAZOPs and PHAs to identify hazards, define safeguards, and ensure process safety compliance.
Apply chemical engineering principles to support safe design, scale-up, optimization, and operation of manufacturing processes.
Support hands-on work in laboratory, pilot, and manufacturing environments to validate process concepts and resolve technical issues.
Document technical work, update procedures, control narratives, and P&IDs, and contribute to intellectual property as appropriate.
Communicate technical updates, risks, and recommendations through reports, presentations, and stakeholder briefings.
Track and report progress against technical, safety, and project objectives.
Collaborate with plant teams, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders to resolve technical and operational challenges.
Use statistical methods and data analysis to improve understanding and control of chemical processes.
Apply structured problem solving to identify root causes and resolve chemical or manufacturing process upsets.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong understanding of chemical processes, chemical systems, and engineering fundamentals.
Experience using structured problem-solving methods and experimental design.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team collaboration skills.
Ability to work effectively in a multifaceted, diverse team environment, including with international staff.
Desired Skills & Experience
Practical experience with HAZOPs and PHAs for safe process design and operation.
Familiarity with chemical engineering simulation tools such as ChemCAD, ProSim Plus, Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, COMSOL, or MATLAB.
Experience with DOE and statistical tools such as Excel, SigmaZone, JMP, Origin, or Minitab.
Travel & Work Conditions
Based in the Hemlock, MI area,
A plus (but not required) would be willingness to travel domestically and support other Corning Incorporated sites after the current workload is complete.
Standard 40-hour workweek with flexibility for extended hours, weekends, and startup support as needed.
