Job description

Summary of Position:
The server is responsible for providing the guest with an exceptional and memorable dining experience by serving beverages and meals to guests and patrons of the restaurant. It is also the responsibility of a food server to up sell, make recommendations, display working knowledge of all menu items and prices, cash handling, and communicate clear and concise food orders to the kitchen team.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Welcome and greet guests enthusiastically with a warm friendly smile in accordance with the script provided by Management. Make all our guests feel comfortable and let them know youre there to personally take care of them.
  • Comply with standard grooming and dress code policies expressed in the Employee Handbook.
  • Develop personal relationships with guests and ensure that they have a positive and memorable experience.
  • Polish and prepare silverware used in service.
  • Check tables for clean and proper set up before seating guest.
  • Monitor and take action to ensure quality of food presentation and freshness.
  • Check the identification of all customers that appear under the age of 35 to ensure that they meet minimum drinking age.
  • Conform to acceptable attendance and punctuality standards as expressed in the Employee Handbook.
  • Report all equipment problems, bar maintenance issues, and unsatisfactory customer experiences to restaurant manager.
  • Inform guests of specials and menu changes.
  • Learn the menu and all of its items so that you can make recommendations you genuinely feel your guests will enjoy.
  • Answer questions about our food, beverages and other restaurant functions and services. Let your guests know about future events and promotions and encourage them to attend.
  • Communicate with kitchen staff to ascertain whether there is a wait time and inform your customers accordingly. Do not wait to be told that there is a wait because by then it is already too late.
  • Take food and beverage orders from guests, enter orders in our point-of-sale system which relays orders to the kitchen and bar.
  • Deliver food and beverages from kitchen and bar to guests in a timely matter.
    • Soft drinks and non-alcoholic beverages 2 minutes or less
    • Bar beverages 4 minutes or less
    • Appetizers 10 minutes or less
    • Entree 20 minutes or less
  • Check back with guests within 2 minutes of delivery of app and entree.
  • Perform side work at the start and end of each shift as required by service station assignment.
  • Maintain clean service areas.
  • Remove items from guests tables as they finish with them.
  • Monitor and observe guests dining experience by remaining in constant communication with them. Ensure guests are satisfied with the food and service. Respond promptly and courteously to any requests.

  • Be ready and willing to assist fellow servers as situations arise.
  • Thank guests for their visit and invite them to return.
  • Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.

Qualifications:
  • Must be of at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to learn Point of Sale system and basic guest service standards.
  • Be able to communicate and understand the predominant language(s) of our guests.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of dining room and service procedures and functions.
  • Possess basic math skills and have the ability to handle money and operate a point-of-sale system.
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
  • Be able to safely lift and easily maneuver trays of food frequently weighing up to 20 to 25 pounds.
