Job description

This is a Day Shift position Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviewing component datasheets and identifying critical requirements to ensure compliance with manufacturability.

  • Input all new products, parts, and routings into the Business System for manufacturing utilization.

  • Input Manufacturing properties and profile information for components used in manufacturing into EDM Library Cockpit.

  • Component Analysis and design for manufacturability evaluation / validation.

  • Testing and validation for components to supplier manufacturing standards.

  • Reviewing manufacturing tooling, component drawings based on vendor documentation using Solidworks/ AutoDesk drawing viewer/ Acrobat.

  • Manage NPI project tasks, including build timelines, materials availability, and resource needs. Execute assigned tasks, monitor progress, collaborate with stakeholders, remove roadblocks, and capture results vs. plan to meet overall project deliverables.

  • Collaboratively manage parts, products, BOMs, routes, specifications, and work instructions in multiple business systems. Peer review basic change orders for release.

  • Help ensure product quality by interpreting and applying engineering requirements, specifications, IPC workmanship, IEC compliance, and other standards.

  • Support internal quality action requests and external customer feedback resolutions.

  • Support Statistical Process Control (SPC) implementation to drive continuous improvement.

  • Seek input, specify, and drive system enhancements to improve communications and optimize work processes.

  • Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operation, and World Class Manufacturing.

  • Demonstrate the competencies listed in the Engineering Technician Career Ladder.

  • Understand. Create. Simplify. Other duties as assigned.

  • Accomplishing other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree or the combination of equivalent training and relevant work experience.

  • Intermediate understanding of Excel

  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills

  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities

  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment

  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL

  • Negative drug test result(s)

Equivalent Training

Demonstrated technical competence in ALL "core curriculum" subject areas:

  • Drawing & schematic interpretation

  • Technical writing

  • Problem solving skills, such as DOE and 8D, A3, or DMAIC

  • Safety Risk Assessments

  • World Class Manufacturing

  • Mathematics - geometry, trigonometry, college algebra

  • Statistical Methods / Statistical Reasoning / Statistical Applications

  • Applied Physics

Demonstrated technical competence in 3+ of the following pathways, or in-depth technical competence in 2+ of the following areas:

  • Continuous Improvement Methodologies, such as: JIT (Kanban, takt time alignment, continuous flow, SMED/QCO). Process analysis (FMEA, PFD, Spaghetti diagram, VSM). Process control (Metrology, MSA, process capability analysis, SPC)

  • Electronic circuits and components

  • Machine operation, instrumentation, control, hydraulics and pneumatics

  • Mechanical design, Statics, CAD, tolerance analysis, and rapid prototyping

  • Metal forming, cutting/machining, finishing, and joining processes

  • Programming, scripting, data structures, and data mining

  • Project Management

Relevant Work Experience

Demonstrated proficiency in 3 of the following 4 categories:

  • Supporting manufacturing processes in more than one of the following areas: electronic assembly, product assembly, cables & harness assembly, electrical wiring, product testing, troubleshooting & failure analysis, Machine Shop, Magnetics, Plastics, Printed Circuit Boards, Sheet Metal.

  • Using MES/ERP (manufacturing execution/enterprise resource planning) systems. Creating and/or updating work instructions, process documentation, BOMs, routes, change orders, etc.

  • Performing data collection and analysis, time studies, line balancing, waste reductions, and throughput improvements in the spirit of World Class Manufacturing.

  • Implementing quality tools, such as root cause problem solving and defect elimination, prevention.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years Manufacturing Engineering Department experience

  • Understanding of programming with Visual Basic
