Job description

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an opening for up to three (3) Intern/Co-Op Engineer (Nuclear) - Summer 2027 located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska.  Position closes November 2, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. 

This position will report to an Engineering Supervisor based upon Co-Op/Intern degree of study and interests in cooperation with the Director of Engineering.

Position Summary

Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS) located near Brownville, Nebraska, offers outstanding opportunities for students pursuing a degree in Engineering. CNS is looking for students who have an interest in working in the field of nuclear power generation. Co-op engineering students are hired for a semester with comprehensive benefits, additional pay for living expenses, and a competitive salary.

NOTE: Co-op position is available to undergraduate students only.

Education, Training and Experience

The student must be pursuing an engineering degree from an accredited college/university. At a minimum, the student must be finishing their sophomore year of college. 

The Co-op Engineer will work the 2027 summer/fall session (mid-May through December 2027).

The Engineer Intern will work the 2027 summer session (mid-May through approximately the first week of August 2027).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Electrical Engineer Intern/Co-op Engineer Duties

Learn and apply alternating current/direct current system modeling techniques with EDSA software.

Assist with electrical and/or instrument control logic modifications.

Calculate and track individual Motor Control Center (MCC) electrical loading.

Apply National Electrical Code to new and existing electrical installations.

Gain invaluable experience in a growing electrical utility industry.

Mechanical Engineer Intern/Co-op Engineer Duties

Assist with preparing Modifications.

Assist with field support of Modifications.

Prepare Design Change Notices.

Assist with mechanical engineering evaluations.

Perform equipment/component walk downs.

Gain practical experience of working in a nuclear power plant.

Gain invaluable experience in a growing electric utility.

Other Engineering Major Intern/Co-Op Duties

Will be based upon degree and area in which the assignment will be.

Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Salary Information

Engineer Intern/Co-Op Sophomore - $25.64 per hour

Engineer Intern/Co-Op Junior - $27.61 per hour

Engineer Intern/Co-Op Senior - $29.58 per hour

Interns are eligible for a $1,000 housing stipend.

Co-Ops are eligible for a $2,500 housing stipend.
