Job description

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Internal Control & Compliance, Operations Services Division.

The Process Improvement Lead supports the Internal Control and Compliance Officer by evaluating internal controls, regulatory compliance, and operational processes to identify risks and recommend improvements. This role conducts compliance reviews, assesses internal controls, and helps design and implement monitoring processes to ensure adherence to federal and state regulations, including Uniform Guidance.

Key responsibilities include providing technical guidance on audit and compliance matters, collaborating with leadership to improve processes across the department, monitoring corrective action plans, preparing compliance reports, and verifying that policies and procedures are documented, implemented, and communicated. The Process Improvement Lead also delivers training on compliance requirements to program, financial, and compliance staff.

This position requires interpreting and applying complex accounting, auditing, and regulatory standards to support informed decision-making and effective risk management. The Process Improvement Lead reports to the Internal Control and Compliance Officer and does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

  • Knowledge of Government Auditing Standards and Federal laws and regulations, including Uniform Guidance.

       Ability to present ideas and information including complex and technical material in a logical sequence others can understand.  

  • Skilled in building rapport, establishing strong cooperative working relationships, and can interact with a variety of people.

  • Meet minimum qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance; Accounting is preferred.

    • Five years of audit, grant management, other job-related work experience; Audit or Grant Management is preferred.

    • Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
