Overview (Scope of Role)ย 

We are looking for a Process Safety Engineer in our Global EH&S Organization.

As a Process Safety Engineer, you are responsible for championing and promoting a strong process safety culture and act as a subject matter expert involved in risk assessment techniques, incident investigations, and updating and maintaining process safety programs, procedures, and tools. You will also be involved in audits and reviews for new projects or process changes. You will be expected to support facilities both globally and regionally and will need to maintain close partnership with the Global EH&S, Global Manufacturing and Engineering, Procurement, and Plant Operations.

This will be a hybrid position with one day per week in office at a Trinseo location. Eligible locations include:

  • Midland, MI
  • Florence, KY
  • Louisville, KY
  • Dalton, GA
  • Bristol, PA

This position will also require about 6-8 trips per year to Trinseo locations.ย 

Responsibilities
  • Direct risk assessment techniques including process hazard analyses and layers of protection analysis. Review and recommend risk evaluation methods for new projects;
  • Lead, facilitate, or participate in plant incident investigations to determine root causes of incidents, especially those that are regulatory in nature or meet an EH&S dashboard trigger;
  • Provide training and coaching to facility personnel and process safety focal points regarding the process safety program, regulatory procedures and requirements, as well as hazard recognition;
  • Maintain and update corporate process safety programs, procedures and tools as assigned to improve the company's process safety performance and reduce risk (Loss Prevention Principles, Management System standards, (TIMS), hazard analysis tools (e.g. PHA, LOPA, PHAST))
  • Assist in the process engineering of specifying or reviewing process equipment specifications, optimization of chemical processes, and implementation of new or proven technologies.
  • Complete Process Safety audits and assessments at facilities. Assist facilities in developing and executing corrective action plans.
  • Support regional Supply Chain and Logistics at the corporate and site level to ensure safe transit of hazardous good and respond to transportation emergencies
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (preferably chemical or mechanical)
  • 5-7+ years experience in a production facility, process safety, or process engineering
  • Fluency in English language required
  • Working knowledge of process safety principles, regulatory requirements, and EH&S guidelines
  • Strong problem solving, troubleshooting, and analytical thinking skills
  • Experience auditing manufacturing facilities
  • Knowledge/Awareness of:
    • OSHA PSM / EPA RMP (US specific regulations)
    • Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)
    • Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA)
    • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
    • Effluent modeling (PHAST)
    • Quantitative risk analysis (QRA)
    • Facility siting (Baker Risk Studies)
    • Root cause investigation (RCI)
    • Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentational skills, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to travel on a periodic basis (6-8 trips per year)
