Agile Space Industries is seeking a Senior Additive Manufacturing Engineer II to join our team onsite in Durango, CO and drive the delivery of high-quality hardware through robust, repeatable production. This role is for individuals with a solid background in engineering and additive manufacturing, offering opportunities to shape and optimize processes in aerospace component additive production. While aerospace experience is beneficial, it is not a requirement.


This position is well suited for professionals with several years of hands-on experience in additive manufacturing or those who have demonstrated leadership in managing additive manufacturing processes. Successful candidates may come from various backgrounds, such as engineering, process optimization, or leadership roles, from an additive manufacturing setting.


Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain manufacturing documentation, including process and work instructions, standard operating procedures, and qualification records, in alignment with AS9100 quality standards and internal specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in transition from prototype to full-scale production and own continuous production build execution, process monitoring, and data review.
  • Lead AM process development and production-readiness activities, including LPBF parameter development, CAPEX acquisition, and post-process workflows, to improve production throughput, yield, and repeatability of AM hardware.
  • Conduct process capability assessments, root cause analyses, and risk evaluations to identify machine utilization improvement opportunities, reduce variation, and support cost-saving initiatives.
  • Utilize statistical analysis and data-driven methodologies to monitor and analyze manufacturing performance, driving improvements and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Lead the development of machine installation, operation, and qualification standards to support production readiness.
  • Develop a close collaboration with printer manufacturers to drive machine-level process improvements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, operators, and technicians, helping to foster a culture of continuous learning, process design, and improvement efforts.
  • Implement safety standards, including handling hazardous and reactive powders, ensuring safeguards are in place that maximize useable life of high value feedstock.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Additive Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. Significant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 7+ years of experience in additive manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, process improvement, or related technical roles.
  • Hands-on experience operating or developing processes on LPBF systems (e.g., Trumpf, EOS, SLM, Renishaw, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with build prep software (e.g. 3DXpert, Magics, TruTops Print) and in-situ monitoring tools.
  • Strong background in process optimization, root-cause analysis, and statistical process control.
  • Proven ability to resolve complex manufacturing challenges and transition additive manufacturing from R&D to scaled production environments.
  • Proven track record in continuous process improvement and the ability to drive manufacturing efficiencies.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Solid understanding of statistics, as applied to manufacturing and process analysis.
  • Ability to learn and adapt in a dynamic work environment, while receiving and integrating feedback.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO9001, ASTM, ASME, etc.).
  • Exposure to GD&T in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) Exposure to wire EDM setup, gauge and fixturing methodology.
  • Proven track record in high-rate manufacturing environments utilizing ERP/MRP.
  • Experience with hazardous materials and proper safeguards for handling and compliance.
  • Programming knowledge (C, C++, Python, etc.) to automate routine tasks.
  • Six Sigma knowledge.
  • Exposure to Materials Testing (chemical, mechanical, metallurgical).
  • Knowledge of powder metallurgy, thermal management in LPBF, defect formation mechanisms, and heat treatment.

The expected salary range for this role is $120,000-$150,000 annually. Final compensation will be based on factors such as experience, skills, and internal equity, and is typically made within the midrange, rather than the upper end.
