Job Title: Process Engineer – Thin Film Deposition Salary Range: 65-80k Work Environment: In Person (Watertown, MA) Reports To: Director Job Type: Full-Time Job Overview:

Radiation Monitoring Devices, Inc. (RMD, Watertown, MA), provides a dynamic work environment for performing world-class research and development in the fields of radiation detection and imaging, nuclear instrumentation, and non-destructive test equipment. Since its founding in 1974, RMD’s research and development have resulted in breakthrough technologies and products that are utilized in a wide range of scientific fields, from space exploration to particle physics, and from nuclear security and safeguards to clinical diagnoses and environmental research.

The Advanced Thin Film Technologies (ATFT) Group is seeking a Process Engineer with expertise in thin film deposition techniques, including but not limited to Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD, preferred), Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), Sputtering, E-beam, and Thermal Evaporation. The ideal candidate will also be proficient in thin film characterization methods. As a part of the ATFT team, you will be at the forefront of thin film development for applied research.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Developing and optimizing substrate cleaning processes.
  • Operating and maintaining Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) and Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) systems.
  • Characterizing thin films using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), the four-point probe technique, as well as absorption and reflection measurements.
  • Analyzing data and compiling reports utilizing Microsoft Office tools.
  • Liaising with external vendors for additional characterization measurements, supplies, and component procurement.
  • Collaborating closely with scientists, technicians, and other process engineers in a dynamic research and development environment.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously and working effectively within a team.
  • Traveling up to 10% for project-related work and vendor interactions.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related Engineering field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional or academic research experience in thin film processes, particularly with ALD (preferred), CVD, Sputtering, and E-beam techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in thin film characterization.
  • Knowledge of vacuum science and vacuum hardware design.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience with Python, COMSOL, and LabVIEW preferred, showcasing proficiency in software tools for simulation and data analysis.
  • A proven track record of working collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
