Job description

The Role:

We are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate for technology, self-motivated and creative Software Data Engineering Intern to join our team. The intern will work on our next-generation pharmacy fulfillment solutions and our enterprise data platform. The Software Data Engineering Intern will participate in the entire software development lifecycle - analyze the business requirements, design, test, and developing cloud-based data solutions. The intern will gain hands-on experience building solutions on Databricks that help transform the data we collect into analytics, operational insights, and AI-enabled capabilities for the business. Working closely with Senior Engineers and cross-functional teams, the intern will help develop and maintain data pipelines, data models, and metadata that make data easier to discover, understand, and use by AI, analytics, and third-party tools. As an engineering team member, the intern will learn and apply industry best practices in software development, data engineering, cloud technologies, data governance, security, AI enablement, and product delivery.  

The iA Intern Program is a 10-week summer internship, running from, Tuesday June 1, 2027, through Friday, August 6, 2027.

What you’ll do:

  • Based on design documents and under Sr. Software Engineers guidance, implement components of data warehousing systems, build extract, transform, load (ETL) processes, and deploy them to the cloud.
  • Develop and enhance data solutions on Databricks that enable analytics, AI, and machine-learning capabilities using customer and operational data.
  • Help create and maintain curated, trusted data models that can be consumed by analytics, AI applications, and business users.
  • Improve and maintain data metadata, descriptions, relationships, definitions, and business context to make data easier for people and AI-powered tools to understand and use.
  • Help prepare data for self-service AI and analytics experiences, including Databricks Genie One and other approved third-party tools.
  • Participate in developing proof-of-concept AI and data solutions that help teams identify trends and derive insights from customer and operational data.
  • Evaluate and validate AI-generated data queries and insights for accuracy and alignment with the underlying data and business definitions.
  • Participate and contribute to team’s daily meetings.
  • Follow senior engineer(s) directions to learn and apply best industry practices in design and implementation.
  • Under supervision implement, troubleshoot, and deploy on cloud software components
  • Liaising with colleagues to implement technical designs.
  • Maintain the security of the company data and applications using security best practices.
  • Participate in creating strong technical documentation of proposed and implemented solutions. 

Who you are:

  • Pursuing degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or related fields.
  • Hands-on knowledge on any flavor of database querying language, SQL, TSQL.
  • Familiarity with Excel, tableau/Power BI
  • Some programming experience with at least one modern language e.g. JavaScript/Typescript, Python.
  • Some classes on object-oriented design.
  • Knowledge of data structures and algorithm.
  • Interest in data engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or using data to solve real-world business problems.
  • Interest in learning how data quality, metadata, and business context influence the quality of analytics and AI solutions.
  • Exposure to Databricks, Spark, data lakes, data warehouses, or modern data platforms.
  • Experience using Python for data processing or analytics.
  • Familiarity with generative AI, large language models, AI agents, or natural-language data analysis.
  • Exposure to data governance, data cataloging, metadata management, or semantic data models.
  • Experience with AI-assisted data or development tools through coursework, internships, or personal projects.
  • Interest in how enterprise data can be prepared and used by AI applications, agents, analytics platforms, and third-party tools.

 It would be great if you also have: 

  • SQL, Power BI.
  • Exposure to Azure cloud (or any cloud) is a plus.

Compensation:

The estimated hourly rate range for this position is $18.00 to $26.00 per hour, though a candidate's hourly rate shall be determined on a range of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications and experience.
