The Land Survey Intern will join a land surveying team supporting boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and construction staking surveys for land development projects, including residential subdivisions, commercial sites, and mixed-use communities. Projects range from small boundary retracements to large multi-phase development surveys for private developers, homebuilders, and public agencies. This position offers a direct opportunity to apply surveying and geomatics coursework to real-world land development projects.
As a Land Survey Intern, the selected candidate will learn to operate field survey equipment and processing software under the guidance of licensed Professional Land Surveyors, and will assist in deed research, field data collection, and the preparation of plats, exhibits, and legal descriptions.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist field survey crews with boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and construction staking surveys for land development projects.
  • Assist in operating robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and other survey instrumentation under the direction of a Professional Land Surveyor.
  • Perform deed and record research to support boundary retracement and title review for development sites.
  • Assist in processing field data and preparing survey drawings, plats, and exhibits using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Support preparation of legal descriptions, easement exhibits, and subdivision plats for review by licensed surveyors.
  • Travel to project sites to collect field data and coordinate with survey crews, contractors, and clients.

Required Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, management, and field crew members.
  • Willingness to learn in a flexible, cross-disciplinary work environment.
  • Willingness to attend site visits and perform work in outdoor field conditions, including exposure to varying weather and terrain.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:
The following qualifications are preferred but not required for consideration:
  • Relevant industry experience through coursework or prior internships in land surveying or civil engineering.
  • Experience with Trimble Access, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or Carlson survey software.
