You are the engineer Illumina is seeking. Based at our Wisconsin site, you will join a team of process engineers at the global leader in genetic sequencing, providing validation, process control, and project support for the equipment and systems that produce the critical enzymes underpinning Illumina's sequencing and array-based solutions. These technologies enable genetic analysis across applications ranging from cancer research to agriculture.
As part of a highly capable, self-directed, and diverse engineering team, you will contribute across the full engineering lifecycle, with a primary focus on equipment system validation. The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional partners and external vendors in a dynamic, team-oriented environment. We are seeking candidates who bring strong technical capability, intellectual curiosity, a passion for applied science, creative problem-solving skills, and a results-driven mindset.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to develop and execute equipment installation, validation, and verification documentation.
  • Reviews and maintains equipment validation packages in partnership with Quality and Equipment Engineering to ensure the validated state.
  • Assesses and investigates process and equipment impacts within a structured dynamic process assurance framework.
  • Supports process and equipment improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Partners with vendors and internal teams to assess risk and recommend mitigation strategies and maintenance efficiencies.
  • Collects, analyzes, and dashboards equipment performance data to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Authors, reviews, and manages detailed equipment compliance and engineering documentation to support regulatory requirements.
  • Develops equipment specifications and qualification documentation in collaboration with vendors and engineering teams.
  • Engages with global counterparts to align processes, share best practices, and execute improvements.

Minimum Requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work on diverse teams and learn quickly.
  • B.S. degree in Engineering or equivalent technical training/experience
  • 2+ years relevant engineering/equipment maintenance experience.

The estimated base salary range for the Manufacturing Process Engineer 1 role based in the United States of America is: $63,400 - $95,200. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. The range reflects long-term growth in the role; therefore, most candidates are hired between the minimum and middle of the range. Placement depends on experience, skills, location, and internal equity. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
