The Process Engineer works closely with customers, project managers, internal engineering/design disciplines, steel pressure vessel fabricators, masonry and lining material suppliers, manufacturing, QA/QC, and field installation crews to deliver safe, accurate, constructible, and well-documented engineered solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares, checks, and documents process engineering calculations for packed towers, mass transfer internals, process vessels, pressure drop, heat/mass transfer, and related equipment sizing.
  • Develops design basis documents, calculation packages, datasheets, technical clarifications, bills of material, sketches, drawing markups, and engineering change records.
  • Reviews process chemistry, temperature, pressure, erosion/abrasion, thermal cycling, and service history to support chemical-resistant lining and material selection.
  • Supports masonry and membrane lining system design for process vessels, towers, nozzles, compression rings, corbels, impingement zones, and other lining-critical areas.
  • Reviews vessel and fabricator information for lining-critical geometry, including shell dimensions, nozzles, weld overlay interfaces, supports/ledges, tolerances, and data-book requirements.
  • Coordinates with suppliers and sub vendors to review technical submittals, material data, test reports, inspection/test plans, lead times, substitutions, and nonconformance dispositions.
  • Supports QA/QC planning and documentation, including drawing/specification review, critical dimensions, material receiving records, curing/dryout requirements, deviations, and final records.
  • Supports estimating and proposals by preparing technical scopes, material estimates, BOMs, schedule assumptions, alternative product solutions, exclusions, risk items, and technical clarifications.
  • Provides limited field and commissioning support, including installation troubleshooting, inspection/repair input, startup or cure support, punch-list resolution, and lessons learned.
  • Captures and apply historical project data, standards, service experience, and lessons learned to reduce design errors, rework, warranty risk, and repeated problem solving.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for customers, suppliers, fabricators, manufacturing, field, and internal engineering interfaces.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, especially Excel, Word, Teams, SharePoint/OneDrive, and document control practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, datasheets, purchase requirements, and supplier documentation. Commitment to safe work practices, technical accuracy, confidentiality, and sound engineering judgment.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with chemical process equipment, masonry-lined pressure vessels, packed towers, autoclaves, slurry heaters, flash vessels, acid service, corrosion-resistant materials, or industrial field execution.
  • Familiarity with acid-resistant brick, mortars, membranes, PTFE, ceramic/graphite/plastic internals, silicon carbide shapes, nozzle linings, curing, startup procedures, and inspection/repair practices.
  • Working knowledge of ASME pressure vessel interfaces, API 936-style masonry QA/QC practices, ASTM masonry testing concepts, surface preparation requirements, and client specification compliance.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar drawing-review tools, process simulation/calculation tools, ERP systems, scheduling tools, or structured root-cause/corrective-action methods.
