How much do process engineer anodizing jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 17, 2026, the average yearly pay for process engineer anodizing in Calabasas, CA is $97,475.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $78,900.00 and $109,100.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does a process engineer anodizing do?

A Process Engineer in Anodizing is responsible for developing, optimizing, and monitoring the anodizing process, which is used to create a protective or decorative oxide layer on metal parts, typically aluminum. Their role involves ensuring the process meets quality standards, troubleshooting issues, improving efficiency, and implementing safety protocols. They also collaborate with production teams to maintain equipment, analyze data, and recommend process improvements for better performance and cost-effectiveness.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a process engineer anodizing?

To thrive as a Process Engineer Anodizing, you need a solid background in chemical engineering or materials science, often complemented by experience in surface finishing processes and a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency in process control systems, statistical analysis software (like Minitab), and knowledge of industry standards (such as ISO 9001) are commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you optimize processes and collaborate with production teams. These skills ensure high-quality anodized products, efficient operations, and compliance with safety and quality standards.

What are some common challenges a process engineer anodizing might face when optimizing production lines, and how can they address them?

Process Engineers in anodizing often encounter challenges such as maintaining consistent coating quality, managing process variables like temperature and chemical concentrations, and minimizing downtime. To address these, they typically implement rigorous process monitoring, conduct root cause analyses for defects, and collaborate closely with maintenance and quality control teams. Continuous improvement practices, such as Lean or Six Sigma, are commonly used to identify inefficiencies and standardize best practices, helping ensure reliable production while meeting safety and environmental standards.

What is the difference between Process Engineer Anodizing vs Process Engineer Plating?

AspectProcess Engineer AnodizingProcess Engineer Plating
CertificationsOften requires engineering degree, industry-specific trainingSimilar certifications, with additional plating process training
Work EnvironmentManufacturing facilities focused on aluminum and oxide coatingsFacilities working with metal coatings like nickel, chrome, or gold
Industry UsageAutomotive, aerospace, electronicsJewelry, electronics, industrial equipment

Both roles involve process optimization and quality control in metal finishing. While Process Engineer Anodizing specializes in oxide layer formation on aluminum, Process Engineer Plating focuses on applying metal coatings. They share similar credentials and work environments but differ in specific processes and industry applications.

Job description

Rainmaker is pioneering a modern cloud seeding system to solve water scarcity and inclement weather problems. We develop and incorporate radar validation, weather-resistant UAS, numerical weather modeling, and sustainable cloud seeds into an effective precipitation enhancement solution.

We're looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to serve as the critical link between Engineering and Production as our drone platform evolves. You'll own the process of translating design revisions into actionable build and maintenance documentation, and ensure the production floor is always working from the latest, most accurate build standards.

What You'll Do
  • Engineering Coordination: Partner closely with Engineering to understand, plan, and roll out design revisions and changes to the drone platform.

  • Build Documentation: Draft clear, precise build instructions for new revisions and engineering changes, ensuring technicians can execute builds consistently and correctly.

  • Maintenance Documentation: Develop and maintain maintenance procedures for drone systems, supporting reliability and serviceability throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Production Liaison: Coordinate with the production team to communicate changes to build processes, ensuring smooth implementation on the floor with minimal disruption to throughput or quality.

  • Build out quality assurance processes

  • Support root-cause investigations and process improvements tied to engineering changes.

  • Maintain version control and traceability of build/maintenance documentation as revisions are released.

  • Support training of production staff on new or updated build processes as needed.

  • Work with procurement to ensure purchasing happens in a timely manner

  • identify improvements in equipment, jigs, or assembly workflows, general shop management.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Well versed with PCB manufacturing processes and quality standards, IPC class 2 and class 3.

  • Experience with CAD tools, PLM/ERP systems, and documentation platforms.

  • Well versed with manufacturing processes like fabrication, machining, anodizing, etc

  • 5+ years of industry experience in manufacturing engineering, ideally within aerospace, robotics, drones, or another complex hardware environment.

  • Comfortable working across multiple software systems and platforms to manage documentation, revisions, and production data (PLM/ERP, file management systems, internal tools).

  • Experience or familiarity using AI coding/prompt-based tools (e.g., Codex, ChatGPT, Copilot) to support technical documentation, scripting, or process automation - including writing clear, effective prompts to get useful output.

  • Proven experience drafting technical build instructions, work instructions, or maintenance procedures.

  • Strong cross-functional communication skills - comfortable working between Engineering and Production teams.

  • Experience managing engineering change orders (ECOs) or similar revision-control processes.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to translate technical designs into clear, actionable instructions for production technicians.
