Job description

TransFund Intern / Junior Database Developer
Location: Denver, CO
Description
The TransFund Intern Junior Database Developer supports the development and enhancement of database applications within an Oracle Database environment.
This position is focused on junior-level application development in the development environment, with primary emphasis on modifying and extending existing Oracle applications already in production rather than building new systems from scratch. Working under the guidance of senior IT staff, the individual will create and test database code, contribute to approved application improvements, and provide practical development capacity while senior team members manage code review, UAT validation, and production implementation.
How You'll Spend Your Time
In consultation with senior developers and TransFund IT leadership, you will support the development, enhancement, and maintenance of Oracle database applications. You will primarily contribute in the development environment by building and modifying SQL and PL/SQL program units, supporting testing activities in lower environments, and preparing changes for review and advancement through established validation processes managed by senior staff.

  • You will develop, modify, and test Oracle 19c database application components such as SQL scripts, PL/SQL procedures, packages, functions, and related database objects in the development environment.
  • You will enhance existing Oracle applications already in production by implementing approved fixes, minor enhancements, and development tasks assigned by senior team members.
  • You will prepare code changes and support documentation for review, ensuring deliverables are organized, readable, and ready for senior review, UAT validation, and controlled promotion through established deployment processes.
  • Working in conjunction with fellow IT team members you will support technical changes that improve the stability, maintainability, and functionality of TransFund’s Oracle-based applications.
  • You will assist with unit testing, development validation, and peer review preparation to help ensure database application changes function as intended before promotion to later test stages.
  • You will document technical changes, development assumptions, and implementation details to support knowledge sharing, code review, and ongoing application support.
  • You will build familiarity with TransFund’s Oracle application landscape, development standards, and software delivery practices while expanding your hands-on technical skills in a regulated production support environment.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • This level of knowledge is normally acquired through progress toward or completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related technical discipline, or through equivalent technical training and closely related practical experience.
  • Prior experience in software development, database development, or technical application support is helpful, including 0-2 years of relevant experience in entry-level technical roles.

SKILLS

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to evaluate technical issues and contribute to effective solutions within established development standards
  • General knowledge of SQL and the ability to write, read, and troubleshoot queries
  • General knowledge of Oracle PL/SQL for developing and maintaining procedures, functions, packages, and scripts
  • Foundational understanding of sound software development and coding principles, including modularity, reusability, parameter-driven design, and the creation of clear, maintainable code
  • General understanding of database application development concepts, including code changes, testing, debugging, and version control discipline
  • Ability to work productively within a structured development lifecycle where code is reviewed, validated, and promoted by senior staff
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and task focused, with the ability to manage assigned work in a deadline-driven environment
  • Highly detail-oriented with a commitment to producing accurate and maintainable technical work
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills, including the ability to document technical work clearly and collaborate effectively with senior developers and stakeholders
  • Exposure to Oracle development tools, database utilities, or related enterprise application environments helpful
