Western Flyer Express is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of Accounting experience, management experience and Trucking/Transportation experience.

 Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrated hands on performance in implementing strong internal controls, negotiating contracts, operations and change management in entities experiencing growth.
  • Very strong Financial management/analysis background; Budget and Forecast preparation/administration.
  • Advanced Quickbooks; Utilization of comprehensive macro, pivot tables, and advanced excel models; very strong systems orientation and implementation experience
  • Responsible for managing operational data and ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Oversees, monitors and works to improve accounting procedures, internal controls and database management.
  • Audits work flow to ensure that all accounting transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with industry standards.
  • Assist in the month end closing and financial reporting process.
  • Assist in special projects as necessary.
  • Assists controller with a variety of tasks as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with all internal controls.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 

  • Minimum 5 years experience working in an Accounting role
  • Prior Management Experience required
  • Prior experience in Trucking Industry highly preferred 
  • CPA preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Experience in Great Plains Accounting System preferred
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office Suite including Outlook)
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary work product
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Must maintain high degree of confidentiality

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. 
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift, move and carry banker’s boxes of documents, up to 20lbs. 
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
