Job description

Role Overview:

The HYCO Operation Excellence group has an opening for a Process Engineer in the HYCO Performance team to support our production facilities in the US. The successful candidate will be located primarily in the Houston, TX area and report to the HYCO Performance Manager. 

This role will be responsible for monitoring and improving the performance of all HyCO plants across the fleet. The main areas of responsibility will include: (1) HyCO plants efficiency/performance monitoring, reconciliation and troubleshooting; (2) Process optimization at plant or enclave level to maximize operating profit; (3) Identification of capacity/efficiency improvement projects; (4) Process engineer role for design and implementation of small improvement projects, <$2 MM Capex (5) SME-level support of hydrogen electrolyzers fleet-wide. (6) Utilization of data analytics and/or development of AI-based tools to improve performance monitoring and increase fleet reliability.    

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize process/data analysis, process controls and modeling skills to identify performance improvement opportunities and troubleshoot problems in operating HyCO plants. Provide technical support to plant operations and maintenance, as well as support of turnaround planning. 

  • Provide support to process safety initiatives, e.g. Process Safety Information, Change Management, Hazard Analysis and abnormal situation management, and support safety and environmental compliance for assigned units.

  • Actively support and participate in driving reliability initiatives through root cause analysis, idea generation and small project execution.

  • Identify and justify improvement projects, implement projects and validate project savings.

  • Monitor and analyze plant efficiency for HyCO plants and provide guidance on key operating parameters, assist regional plants in achieving plant efficiency and performance KPI targets.

  • Provide regular technical assistance to other departments within HyCO business including product management, pipeline operating center and business development.

  • Coordinate the support and development of predictive monitoring tools to improve reliability and operability of our HyCO plants.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in a process or plant engineering function in operations or engineering in the industrial gas, chemicals, refining/petrochemical and/or steam generation industries.

  • Proven ability to assess plant performance and reconcile performance based on process modeling and data.

  • Demonstrated ability (or at least working experience) with operation of H2 SMR plant or HyCO plant.

  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills able to work as individual contributor as well as part of the multidisciplinary team.

  • Demonstrated ability to generate ideas and develop them into improvement projects.

  • Knowledge of process controls and optimization and basic familiarity with instrumentation systems is preferred.

  • Proficient in process modeling using Unisim, AspenPlus or equivalent software package.

  • Prior experience with HyCO plants, Hydrogen and/or Carbon Monoxide, is preferred.

  • Ability to effectively communicate across multiple departments within Linde Plc. such as operations, engineering, business development and R&D.

  • Domestic travel is required ( < 20% )
