Job description

Position Purpose:
The Pro Product Sales Specialist is responsible for assisting customers throughout the sales process for complex projects leveraging product expertise, including product selection, measurements, takeoffs from construction plans and designs, coordinating transactions with Outside Sales Representatives, and providing post-sales support as needed. This role partners closely with the field Outside Sales team to identify high value opportunities and assist in closing sales, leveraging product offerings in the vendor direct, FDC and DFC network as our primary assortment. The Pro Product Sales Specialist will train and coach our Outside Sales Representatives on product specifics related to complex projects to capture additional share of wallet and visit job sites alongside the outside salesforce to engage with customers and meet their needs.
Key Responsibilities:
  • 50% - Customer Meetings and Quoting - Collaborate with the takeoff team, complex quoting teams, Design Connect, Virtual Apron, and Merchandising to create specific quotes for customers. Engage directly with customers on job site visits to select products, provide measurements, and support the quoting process through partnership with the Outside Sales team. Partner with Merchandising to provide solutions, including special orders, custom quotes, and direct from supplier options.
  • 25% - Product Expertise and Merchandising Selection - Ensure customer needs are met through category expertise and long-term market growth. Act as a conduit to Pro Merchandising for feedback regarding assortment and suppliers. Act as a key resource in helping customers identify the best products for their project, considering their budget, environment, and durability needs. Leverage local and special order options and work with supplier resources to obtain necessary product information.
  • 25% - Sales Support and Training - Serve as a support resource for all Outside Sales teams, offering product knowledge, supplier engagement, and post-sale support. Train and coach Outside Sales Representatives on product categories to capture additional share through complex projects. Streamline communication between Sales and Merchandising, fostering a feedback loop that improves product selection, training, and customer satisfaction. Provide expertise within key product categories within Flooring, Kitchen/Bath, Millwork, or exterior projects.

Travel Requirements:
  • Typically requires overnight travel 20% to 50% of the time.

Physical Requirements:
  • Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, and lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.

Working Conditions:
  • Usually in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors causing moderate physical discomfort from such things as dust, fumes, or odors

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience selling/specifying windows, patio doors, and interior/exterior doors for residential and/or multi-family projects, including special order/custom solutions
  • Proven ability to train/coach sales teams on windows/doors product basics, measurement best practices, and "must-know" terminology to help win complex projects on the jobsite.
  • Understanding of common code/safety considerations in windows/doors and comfort communicating these at a practical, jobsite level.
  • Experience partnering with manufacturers, suppliers, or distributors for windows/doors to confirm specifications, availability, documentation, and project requirements
  • Ability to take field measurements / perform jobsite walk-offs and translate findings into accurate product selection and quoting support for the customer and Outside Sales team
  • Strong understanding of customer project needs in Flooring, Kitchen/Bath, Millwork, or exterior projects
  • Experience in product selection, project coordination, and quoting processes
  • Prior experience in the construction/home improvement industry experience
  • Prior experience managing residential home improvement install projects
  • Comfortable leading training sessions and supporting Outside Sales Representatives with ongoing development
  • Excellent presentation, negotiating, and influencing skills
