Job Title: Sports Communication Specialist Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Dept./School: Communications Department
Primary Purpose:
Responsible for creating and managing engaging content that promotes district initiatives and events with a heavy focus on Frenship ISD's athletic programs. This role will collaborate closely with coaches and athletes for coverage of games, media opportunities, sports events, awards, and recognitions. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing strategies for social media, creating visually engaging graphic designs for print and digital pieces, photos/videos, and written publications. While this role focuses on athletics, it will also be responsible for helping with various other districtwide Communication efforts, events, and initiatives.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
  • High school diploma or GED (required)

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Must be proficient in graphic design for print and digital communication channels
  • Must have social media management experience
  • Knowledge of sports in general preferred
  • Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects) or similar design/video editing software
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with coaches, staff, and community partners
  • Excellent copywriting and editing skills with a keen eye for detail and creativity
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Understanding of brand consistency and public image management
  • Comfortable working evenings for athletic events

Experience:
  • 1-3 years of public relations, graphic design, sports management, journalism, marketing, or communications experience (preferred)
  • Must provide a portfolio of graphic design and/or social media work at time of application.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Content Creation and Management:
  1. Manage official district and athletic-related social media accounts with timely, engaging, and accurate content.
  2. Create social media calendars and campaigns that promote games, athlete awards, and school spirit.
  3. Monitor social media trends in athletics and recommend innovative strategies to increase engagement.
  4. Create visually appealing graphics for social media, websites, video scoreboards, print publications, flyers, and other promotional materials that are consistent with Frenship ISD's brand. This includes weekly game day graphics for all varsity sports across the district, signing day graphics, athlete and coach recognition graphics, and more.
  5. Develop creative campaigns that highlight athletic achievements and school spirit across multiple platforms.

District and Athletic Event Coordination:
  1. Assist the Communications Department with planning and executing districtwide events throughout the year such as Convocation, Business Partners Luncheon, Staff Appreciation Banquet, Superintendent's Academic Excellence Banquet and more.
  2. Cover varsity-level athletic games and athletic events such as Meet the Tiger/Panther to take photos and video.
  3. Coordinate, produce, and direct all varsity-level home football game pre-game shows with video board graphics, special recognitions, district announcements, videos, and presentations such as Kid of the Game.
  4. Write PA scripts for all varsity-level home football game pre-game shows.
  5. Act as liaison between coaches, announcers, administrators, and event staff to ensure smooth execution of the football game day experience.
  6. Oversee pre-game, halftime, and post-game program elements.

Media and Community Relations:
  1. Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries related to district athletic programs, events, and student-athlete achievements
  2. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with local media outlets, sports reporters, and community partners
  3. Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and game summaries to promote athletic events and accomplishments
  4. Coordinate media coverage for high-profile events such as football games, playoffs, signing days, and district championships
  5. Facilitate interviews with coaches, student-athletes, and administrators in alignment with district policies
  6. Monitor media coverage and public sentiment related to athletics, providing updates and recommendations to district leadership
  7. Collaborate with campus administrators, coaches, booster clubs, and community partners to support and amplify athletic initiatives
  8. Assist in planning and promoting community-facing events such as Kid of the Game, Homecoming Tailgate, senior nights, signing days, and athletic celebrations
  9. Support partnerships with local businesses, sponsors, and organizations through recognition and coordinated messaging
