As of Aug 21, 2026, the average weekly pay for prn x ray tech in Michigan is $1,825.12, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $1,517.31 and $2,178.85 per week, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does the typical work schedule look like for a PRN X Ray Tech, and how is it different from a full-time role?

As a PRN (pro re nata, or 'as needed') X Ray Tech, you'll typically work flexible, variable shifts based on the facility's staffing needs, which may include evenings, weekends, or on-call hours. Unlike full-time positions, PRN roles offer more control over your availability, allowing you to accept shifts that fit your schedule, but they may not guarantee a consistent number of hours each week. This flexibility can be ideal for those seeking work-life balance or supplementary income, but it also requires adaptability to changing routines and rapid response to short-notice requests. You'll still collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other technologists, ensuring patients receive timely imaging services when needed most.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the PRN X Ray Tech position, and why are they important?

To excel as a Prn X Ray Tech, you need solid knowledge of radiographic techniques, anatomy, and safety protocols, typically supported by an accredited radiologic technologist program and ARRT certification. Familiarity with digital imaging systems (PACS), X-ray equipment, and hospital information systems is essential. Strong attention to detail, adaptability, and effective communication are valuable soft skills, especially given the on-call or variable nature of PRN work. These qualities ensure accurate imaging, patient safety, and seamless integration with healthcare teams in a dynamic clinical environment.

What is a prn x-ray tech?

A PRN X-ray tech is a radiologic technologist who works on an as-needed basis, providing imaging services such as X-rays in healthcare settings. They typically hold certification, have knowledge of imaging equipment, and may work flexible or irregular hours depending on staffing needs.

Where do prn X-ray techs make the most money?

PRN X-ray techs tend to earn higher wages in regions with a higher cost of living or in areas with greater demand for healthcare services. Typically, metropolitan areas and states with a strong healthcare industry offer higher pay rates for radiologic technologists, including PRN positions. Salary can also vary based on experience, certifications, and the healthcare facility type.
