Employer & Industry UsageSelf-employed or practice ownerEmployed by dental practices or clinics

Private Practice Dentists typically own or operate their own dental clinics, handling both patient care and business management. General Dentists often work within established practices or clinics, focusing primarily on patient treatment. While both roles require similar credentials, private practice dentists have additional responsibilities related to running a business.

What do private practice dentists get paid?

Private practice dentists typically earn an average annual salary ranging from $150,000 to $200,000, depending on experience, location, and practice size. Compensation may include base salary, production bonuses, and benefits, with some earning more based on patient volume and skills in procedures like cosmetic or implant dentistry.

Do private practice dentists make more money?

Private practice dentists generally have higher earning potential compared to employed dentists, as they can set their own fees and manage their practice expenses. However, income varies based on location, experience, patient volume, and practice ownership responsibilities. Successful private practitioners often need strong business skills and investment in equipment and staff.
