Job description

Overview
AMERICAN SYSTEMS is an employee-owned federal government contractor supporting national priority programs through our strategic solutions in the areas of Information Technology, Test & Evaluation, Program Mission Support, Engineering & Analysis, and Training. We are looking for a mission-driven Electronics Engineerwith the curiosity and desire to investigate the functions and features if novel, advanced, electronics associated with various weaponized technologies. In this role, you will work state-side and in international locations reverse engineer electronic materials in support of a US Navy mission.
Responsibilities
  • Be part of an established reverse engineering and digital forensics team with opportunity to grow.
  • Support a one of a kind command within the Department of Defense whose mission is to provide near real-time technical intelligence to tactical commanders, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) community, service components, DoD, and National-level Intelligence Agencies.
  • Have opportunities to upgrade your skills by attending industry leading courses in areas such as embedded system forensic analysis.
  • Responsible for reporting and briefing critical finds to both military and DoD civilian leadership.
  • Conduct laboratory based analysis of electronic devices to understand the theory of operation and functionally.
  • Perform exploitation and reverse-engineering on various electrical components ranging from IED electronic components to advanced weapon systems.
  • Capture, characterize and identify electrical/electronic RF receiver and transmitter modules and circuit board characteristics, operating frequencies and power.
  • Identify electronic components visually, conduct research, provide information, develop accurate schematics of electronics systems using provided tools and techniques.
  • Analyze, demodulate and decode signals in order to extract intelligence data and develop standardized demodulation and decoding tools and techniques for commonly encountered signals.
  • Perform Electronic Data Recovery (EDR) of logical and physical data on cell phones and other media storage devices using hardware/software tools including Cellebrite UFED, XRY, FTK and other forensic tools and analyze EDR files to recover data that may be of investigative or intelligence value.
  • Produce storyboards and technical reports on captured data.
  • Maintain and document chain of custody of items and data.
  • Deploy to remote field locations on a regular or as needed basis to analyze devices or train partners in the processes associated with reverse engineering.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree or an applicable technical field from an accredited college or university with 5-15 years of professional work experience in a relevant technical field.
  • Experience must include electronic circuit design and PCB assembly, Radio Frequency (RF) field, operation of lab instrumentations including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, communication receivers, RF signal generators and handheld digital multi-meters and schematic capture tools.
  • Experience developing and supporting the Weapons Technical Intelligence Enterprise is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Familiarity with SIPRNET and Community of Interest databases and portals is desired.
  • Familiarity with electronics lab processes and work flow for device exploitation efforts.
  • Understanding of electronic circuits, embedded devices, and code in order to support detailed analysis and operational understanding of undocumented devices.

Certifications and Other Qualifications:
  • Current DOD Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a Top-Secret security clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship Required for the purposes of obtaining/holding a U.S. security clearance
