What is a print traffic manager?

A Print Traffic Manager is a professional responsible for coordinating the logistics and delivery of film prints, digital cinema packages (DCPs), or advertising materials to theaters, festivals, or broadcasters. They ensure that all required materials arrive on time, in the correct format, and meet quality standards. Print Traffic Managers often work closely with distributors, exhibitors, and technical teams to troubleshoot issues and track deliveries. Their role is crucial in the smooth release and exhibition of films or advertising campaigns.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a print traffic manager?

To thrive as a Print Traffic Manager, you need strong project management abilities, attention to detail, and experience in print production or advertising workflows, often supported by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with project management software (such as Workamajig or Basecamp), print scheduling systems, and knowledge of print specifications are typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and multitasking skills help in managing deadlines and coordinating between creative, production, and vendor teams. These skills are crucial for ensuring high-quality deliverables, meeting client expectations, and maintaining efficient production timelines.

What are some common challenges faced by print traffic managers, and how can they be addressed?

Print Traffic Managers often juggle tight deadlines, multiple projects, and coordination between various teams such as creative, production, and vendors. One common challenge is managing last-minute changes or delays in print schedules, which can impact delivery timelines.
