Job description

Description
The main function of this position is to print flexographic (Flexo) inks and coatings on a variety of different web substrates, such as coated and uncoated papers, thermal sensitive, and synthetics substrates.
This requires the set-up and complete operation of four different pieces of web printing equipment: an eight-color Mark Andy LP3430 17-inch wide press with Martin automatic equipment on each end; an eight-color Mark Andy LP3250 10-inch wide press with Martin automatic equipment on each end; a five-color Webtron 7.5-inch wide press; and a four-color Webtron 6.5-inch wide press.
Responsibilities:
A Printing Services Flexo Multi-Color Press Operator typically
  • Responsible for the accurate reading and comprehension of written job specifications. Job specifications provide the production details of each job/finished product.
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient make-ready (set up) and complete operation of the four different web Flexo presses.
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operator maintenance and cleanliness of the four different web Flexo presses.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate accounting and reporting of production time and materials, via shop-floor data collection terminals.

Other Compensation Information
Night differential: A $.75 per hour night differential is paid to associates regularly scheduled to work any hours between midnight and 3:00 a.m
Year End Bonus
To reward associates for their contributions to the company for the calendar year, Publix provides a Holiday Bonus in November. In the first year of continuous employment the bonus is equal to 15 hours of pay, and in the second year of continuous employment the bonus is equal to one week's pay if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check. In subsequent years, the bonus is equal to two weeks' pay.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or the equivalent
  • Physical abilities, including: the lifting of up to 70 pounds, extended walking/standing (up to 14 hours/day), bending, and squatting
  • Interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Adaptability and versatility (change) skills
  • Willingness and the ability to work variable work schedules (sometimes with short notice) when and as required by the work load, which may include weekend and/or holiday hours.
  • Math and measurement knowledge

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate of Science in graphic arts/printing
  • Two years of eight color Flexo press operation
  • Graphics arts college and/or trade school certification(s)
  • Knowledge of general Publix and Printing Services' policies and procedures
  • Comprehensive printing knowledge with an overall understanding of both pre-press and post-press processes
  • Advanced flexographic web printing knowledge
  • Understanding of inks and inking
  • Understanding the parts and function of the ink transfer system
  • Understanding the parts and function of a continuous-flow inking system
  • Understanding the various supported and un-supported web printing substrates
  • Understanding the parts and function of the UV coating system
  • Advanced knowledge of the reproduction aspects of bar codes and the use of a bar-code inspecting/verifying system
  • Understanding the parts and function of the Martin automatic unwind roll to roll butt splicer
  • Understanding the parts and function of the drying system
  • Understanding the parts and function of the web tension control system to ensure proper print to print and print to die registration during run

  • Understanding quality control methodologies, processes, tools, and measurements with special emphasis on four-color process (CMYK) web printing
  • Specific and advanced press set-up, operation, and maintenance knowledge of four different Flexo web printing presses
  • Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
