What is a print manager?

Print Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the production of printed materials, such as brochures, magazines, packaging, or marketing collateral. They coordinate with clients, design teams, and print suppliers to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery of print projects. Print Managers also manage budgets, select appropriate materials and print processes, and troubleshoot any issues that arise during production. Their goal is to ensure that print jobs meet specifications and are completed efficiently and to a high standard.

What are some common challenges faced by a print manager when overseeing multiple print projects simultaneously?

A Print Manager often juggles several print projects at once, each with its own deadlines, specifications, and stakeholders. One common challenge is coordinating with vendors and internal teams to ensure timely delivery without compromising quality. Managing changes in project scope, last-minute edits, and budget constraints can also be demanding. Effective organization, clear communication, and proactive problem-solving are essential for meeting client expectations and maintaining workflow efficiency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a print manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Print Manager, you need expertise in print production processes, project management, and quality control, often supported by experience in print or graphics industries. Familiarity with print management software, prepress systems, and budgeting tools is typically required. Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills help coordinate teams, vendors, and clients effectively. These competencies ensure that print projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to client specifications, which is crucial for business success.

Job description

About Austin Print Co.
Austin Print Co. is a custom branding shop serving businesses, teams, and events across the Austin metro. We produce custom apparel, embroidery, DTF transfers, laser engraving, UV printing, promotional products, and awards. We are known for fast turnarounds, rush orders welcome, and doing whatever it takes to get a customer's brand on anything. We are growing and building out our production capacity, and we need people who take pride in output quality and speed.
Location: Cedar Park, TX (on site) Type: Full time, 40 hours per week Schedule: Saturday through Wednesday, day shift. Friday and Monday off.
The Role
You will be hands on in daily production, taking custom apparel and branded merchandise from approved artwork through finished product. This is not a desk job. You will work across multiple areas of production including DTF printing and heat pressing, commercial embroidery, laser engraving, UV printing, order fulfillment, quality control, and shipping. On any given day you might be pressing a 300 piece DTF apparel run in the morning and hooping polos on our 8 head Tajima embroidery machine in the afternoon.
What You Will Do
  • Produce custom apparel and merchandise according to approved artwork and order specifications
  • Operate and maintain our DTF printing workflow: print, powder, cure, and press transfers onto apparel
  • Operate our Tajima 6 head commercial embroidery machine: garment prep, hooping, thread changes, tension checks, trimming, and finishing
  • Assist with laser engraving and UV printing
  • Review orders before production to verify garments, quantities, sizes, artwork, placement, colors, and special instructions
  • Perform quality control checks before, during, and after production
  • Identify production issues and communicate questions before proceeding with an order
  • Fold, package, label, and prepare completed orders for customer pickup or shipping
  • Process recurring and fulfillment based production orders
  • Receive, count, sort, and organize incoming garments and production materials
  • Assemble and prep awards, trophies, and engraved products
  • Maintain clean, organized production stations, equipment, supplies, and inventory
  • Update job statuses and accurately track assigned production work
  • Assist other production team members as needed to keep orders moving and hit rush deadlines. Speed with accuracy is the job
What We Are Looking For
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a consistent full time schedule including weekends. This is the number one requirement
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. You can catch a misprint or a wrong thread color before completing an order
  • Able to follow written production instructions and approved artwork accurately, and ask questions when something is unclear
  • Able to recognize when something does not look right and speak up before proceeding
  • Comfortable working independently once trained
  • Able to manage multiple jobs and priorities in a fast paced production environment
  • Willing and able to learn multiple production methods and pieces of equipment
  • Comfortable performing repetitive production tasks while maintaining accuracy
  • Good communication and problem solving skills
  • Comfortable standing for extended periods and performing hands on production work for a full shift
  • Able to lift and move boxes of apparel and production materials, up to 40 lbs
  • Basic computer comfort for reading orders and updating job status
Nice to Have, Not Required
  • Previous experience in DTF printing, heat pressing, embroidery, screen printing, laser engraving, UV printing, fulfillment, manufacturing, or warehouse production
  • Familiarity with garment brands and blank apparel (Bella Canvas, Richardson, Carhartt, Nike, etc.)
  • Engraving or awards assembly experience

We will train the right candidate who demonstrates reliability, attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.
Benefits
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Paid sick time
  • Paid holidays
  • Employee discount on apparel and custom products
  • Growth path into lead production, embroidery specialist, or shop management roles as we scale
How to Apply
Send a short note on why you are a fit, plus your work history, to [email protected]. No formal resume required. Tell us about a time you had to get something done right under a deadline.
Austin Print Co. is an equal opportunity employer.
