Print Intern information

What is a print intern?

Print Interns are entry-level professionals or students who assist in various tasks related to print production, such as preparing files, operating printing equipment, and supporting designers or print technicians. They usually work in print shops, publishing houses, or marketing agencies to gain hands-on experience in the printing industry. Their responsibilities often include quality control, organizing materials, and learning about different printing techniques. This internship provides valuable exposure to the technical and creative aspects of print media, helping interns develop industry-relevant skills.

What types of projects and responsibilities can a print intern expect during their internship?

As a Print Intern, you will typically assist with various stages of the print production process, from concept development to final output. This can include preparing artwork for printing, coordinating with designers and print vendors, performing quality checks, and learning about different printing techniques and materials. You'll often collaborate closely with graphic designers, marketing teams, and production staff, gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment. Interns are usually given opportunities to contribute to live projects, which helps them develop practical skills and build a professional portfolio.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a print intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Print Intern, you typically need a foundation in graphic design or visual arts, familiarity with print production processes, and relevant coursework or portfolio work. Proficiency with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and an understanding of print-specific requirements like color management and file preparation are essential. Strong attention to detail, time management, and willingness to learn make a candidate stand out in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for producing accurate, high-quality print materials and supporting the workflow of print production teams.
