Job description

Maxonic maintains a close and long-term relationship with our direct client. In support of their needs, we are looking for a Junior Full-Stack Developer TypeScript / Next.js / PostgreSQL.

Job Description:

Job Title: Junior Full-Stack Developer TypeScript / Next.js / PostgreSQL

Job Type: Contract

Job Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Work Schedule: Onsite

Pay Rate: $75 on W2

Description:

We are hiring a junior developer to work across the full stack of a TypeScript web application: React on the front end, server-side rendering and API routes in Next.js, PostgreSQL behind it, and containers deployed to Azure.

You will write production code from your first weeks, reviewed by senior engineers, and you will work the whole vertical โ€” a change usually touches the schema, the query, the server code and the interface. We are hiring for aptitude and care, not for a checklist of frameworks.

Ability to work with stakeholders to convert complex business requirements to shippable features is preferred.

Required:

  • Working knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript, and comfort building interfaces with React, from a job, an internship, coursework or your own projects. We do not mind which, but we will ask you to talk through something you built.
  • Enough SQL to be dangerous: joins, aggregates, and the ability to read a query and say what it returns. Relational modelling fundamentals, keys, constraints, and why normalisation exists.
  • Git, and the ability to explain a change in writing.
  • Familiarity with the HTTP request/response cycle, JSON APIs, and browser fundamentals.
  • Care about correctness. You run the thing. You look at the output. You are suspicious of a result that arrives too conveniently.
  • Next.js or another server-rendered React framework particularly any grasp of the server/client boundary.
  • An ORM or query builder (Drizzle, Prisma, TypeORM, Kysely, SQLAlchemy), and having written a database migration.

Preferred:

  • Docker, or any exposure to containers and CI/CD.
  • Any cloud platform โ€” Azure preferred, though AWS or Google Cloud Platform experience transfers cleanly. Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate is a plus, not an expectation.
  • Tailwind, design tokens, or previous work against a design system.
  • Testing, accessibility, or performance work of any kind.

Nice To Have, AI And Retrieval:

Some of our work involves LLM features built directly against the model APIs rather than through a framework. None of this is required and we will teach it, but experience is welcome:

  • Azure OpenAI, or the OpenAI API used directly, chat completions and streaming.
  • Tool / function calling: giving a model a set of functions and running the loop that executes them.
  • Embeddings and vector search pgvector, cosine distance, chunking strategies, and the awkward fact that keyword and vector scores share no scale.
  • Retrieval-augmented generation, and any experience evaluating whether a retrieval pipeline actually got better rather than just different.
  • Prompt-injection awareness, or any thinking about what an LLM should not be permitted to do.

Explicitly not required:

  • A computer science degree.
  • Prior professional experience with our exact stack.
  • Any prior AI or machine-learning experience.
