LOCATION and TRAVEL

Location: Goodlettsville (Nashville), TN; Glasgow, KY; Bowling Green, KY preferred.

Travel: Approximately 75% domestic travel is expected to support field surveying projects throughout the United States. Overnight travel and extended field assignments may be required depending on project needs.

We are seeking a motivated Entry-Level Survey Crew Field Technician to join our growing Land Surveying team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, traveling, learning new technology, and contributing to projects that help shape communities across the country.

Working under the direction of experienced Survey Crew Chiefs and Licensed Land Surveyors, the Survey Crew Field Technician will assist with collecting accurate field data using modern surveying equipment. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience supporting transportation, utility, commercial, energy, and infrastructure projects while developing the technical skills needed for a successful career in land surveying.

PURPOSE

The Survey Crew Field Technician supports field surveying operations by assisting with data collection, equipment setup, boundary and topographic surveys, construction staking, and documentation. This role provides an excellent opportunity to build technical expertise while working alongside experienced survey professionals in a collaborative and safety-focused environment.

MAJOR TASKSField Survey Operations
    1.Assist Survey Crew Chiefs with boundary, topographic, ALTA, route, utility, and construction surveys.
    2.Operate and maintain survey equipment including GPS receivers, robotic total stations, data collectors, and digital levels.
    3.Set survey control points, monuments, hubs, stakes, and construction layout markers.
    4.Collect accurate field measurements and survey data for engineering and mapping projects.
    5.Clear survey lines and assist with locating property corners and existing infrastructure.
    6.Maintain field notes and electronic data collection records.
    7.Transport, organize, and care for survey equipment and vehicles.
    8.Perform routine equipment inspections and report on maintenance needs.
    9.Assist with construction staking and verification of project layouts.
    10.Work safely in a variety of environments, including active construction sites, roadways, wooded areas, and remote locations.
    11.Communicate effectively with Survey Crew Chiefs, project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients.
    12.Maintain Athena's commitment to safety, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
SCOPE OF AUTHORITY
    1.Perform field survey tasks under the supervision of the Survey Crew Chief.
    2.Operate assigned survey equipment following established procedures.
    3.Assist in maintaining accurate field documentation and survey records.
    4.Support project schedules and daily field operations.
    5.Identify field conditions or potential issues and communicate them to the Survey Crew Chief.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCERequired Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and walk long distances over uneven terrain.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or coursework in Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, or related field.
  • Previous experience in construction, surveying, utility locating, landscaping, or other outdoor field work.
  • Familiarity with GPS equipment, total stations, or data collectors.
  • OSHA 10Hour Certification.
  • Experience with Trimble, Leica, Carlson, or other survey software and equipment.
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
