We are looking for:
The Principal Engineer within the Mineral Processing R&I team focuses on defining and executing highly innovative and complex R&I and technology projects covering relevant scientific and technology domains in order to achieve the strategic goals of the Mining Solutions business. The position involves working in a collaborative team environment with R&I Scientists, Engineers, Chemists and field Technical Service & Development (TS&D) teams to develop and commercialize value-added products and technologies through laboratory and field testing. The Principal Engineer will build internal and external partnerships in order to ensure successful application of new and improved products at the customer operations.

The position involves working in a team environment with R&I Scientists, Engineers, and Chemists to develop value-added mineral processing products and technologies through laboratory and field testing.
  • Define and execute mineral processing research and development programs for the delivery of new and improved products, technologies, and applications.
  • Design and implement appropriate lab and field tests required to validate and commercialize new and improved products
  • Provide strategic input regarding the innovation portfolio with a balanced focus on incremental and breakthrough ideas and projects. Propose new ideas and run the required tests for feasibility assessment
  • Develop fundamental and application knowledgebase for current and new products
  • Define and perform pilot and industrial-scale trials working collaboratively with project team members and customers
  • Document and effectively communicate research findings, both internally and externally
  • Work collaboratively with peers, project team members, other internal departments (R&I synthesis, Analytical, Manufacturing, Commercial & Sales), and customers to achieve innovation targets
  • Identify opportunities for IP protection, and provide support for patent applications or new product registration
  • Stay up-to-date with technical literature, industry and flotation technology trends. Participate in strategic professional conferences and present papers
  • Provide technical expert advice, recommendations and support to key and strategic customers
  • Mentor, train, and coach R&I colleagues and develop technical application expertise within the global Mining Technical Service and Development (TS&D) team
  • Actively demonstrate positive safety behaviors in accordance with Syensqo's best practices

You will bring:
  • Engineering or chemistry related Master of Science or PhD degree, preferably in Mining with Flotation knowledge, Metallurgy, Materials Science or Surface Chemistry.
  • 8+ years experience in specialty chemicals applications. Experience in mining chemical applications and commercialization of new technologies is required. Experience in R&D or industry setting is preferred.
  • Hands-on laboratory, pilot, and industrial experience in flotation is required
  • Capacity to innovate and curiosity towards chemical technologies & products
  • Good knowledge in one or more of the following areas is preferred: chemistry, mineralogy, colloid and surface chemistry, electrochemistry
  • Knowledge of experimental design, statistics and data analysis is preferred
  • Ability to teach and coach peers in novel methodologies and flotation technologies is desirable.
  • Should be self-motivated and results oriented.
  • Good organizational and prioritization skills to manage the workload and ability to work autonomously
  • Up to 40% of domestic/international travel required

  • The U.S. annual base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this new hire is: $108,000.00 to $165,000.00. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate, such as skills, experience, qualifications, etc. and can ultimately be more or less than the posted salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
  • 16, or more, weeks of maternity/paternity and co-parenting leave, according to local regulations
