We are currently seeking aSenior Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineer to design plumbing and fire protection systems including domestic cold-water systems, domestic hot water systems, specialty water systems, sanitary drainage and vent systems, storm drainage systems, natural gas distribution systems, medical gas and/or laboratory gas systems, grease waste systems, acid waste and vent systems, other special plumbing systems and fire suppression systems.ย ย 

The opportunity

  • Design plumbing and fire protection systems for buildings and structures.ย ย 
  • Preparation of drawings detailing the systems designed, including but not limited to plumbing schedules, floor plans and enlarged plans, details and riser diagrams.ย ย 
  • Prepare sketches and narratives for early predesign packages.ย 
  • Provide Revit drawings for schematic design through DD construction documents.ย ย 
  • System design calculations, code analysis and record-keeping.ย ย 
  • Select equipment for use in building systems.ย ย 
  • Preparation of written reports describing the proposed systems and alternatives.ย ย 
  • Prepare specifications tailored to project needs.ย ย 
  • Coordinate your work with the engineers of other disciplines.ย ย 
  • Attend meetings and communicate with clients to establish their needs and discuss design options with them.ย ย 
  • Incorporate sustainable design methods in buildings based on client needs.ย ย 
  • Construction administration activities, including but not limited to site visits, review and respond to contractor submittals and RFIs; troubleshooting construction issues, and write site observation reports.ย ย 
  • Mentor junior plumbing engineers/designers.ย ย 
  • Calling City Officials and Fire Marshal office as necessary for project delivery.ย ย

Is this role right for you?ย 

  • Minimum 6 years experience in the design and specification of plumbing and fire protection systems required.ย ย 
  • Familiarity with codes and standards, specifically UPC, IPC, IBC, ASPE standards, LEED water efficiency, TDSHS, FGI and NFPA.ย ย 
  • Experience designing a variety of building types which may include offices, hotels, hospitals, laboratories, and high-rise buildings.ย ย 
  • Ability to utilize Revit software to develop design drawings and 3D model of plumbing and piping systems is preferred.ย ย 
  • Ability to deliver quality work by project deadline within given time budget.ย ย 
  • Good communication skills essential for team-based working.ย ย 
  • Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment.ย ย 
  • Must be highly motivated, proactive and willing to take on new challenges.ย ย 
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam, Excel, Word and navisworks.ย 

Other/Preferred:ย 

  • Bachelor's Degree in mechanical or environmental engineering.ย ย 
  • Professional Engineering License preferred or ASPE CPD (Certified in Plumbing Design).ย ย 
  • Sound knowledge in plumbing engineering fundamentals.ย ย

Houston Hiring Range- The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Houston is $120,000 - $136,000 per year.
