Job description

Signal Energy's Principal Engineer, Electrical will serve as the subject matter expert and primary reviewer technical lead for Signal Energy's PV and BESS electrical engineering efforts. Additionally, this role is accountable for developing and implementing electrical design standards and processes, growing, mentoring and managing the electrical design team and collaborating across disciplines to ensure our construction teams have constructable designs on time and in full compliance with client and regulatory requirements.
Reports to: EVPDirector of Engineering, Engineering & Battery Storage
Location/Travel: Remote or Chattanooga, TN; periodic travel for client meetings, project site visits, and industry events
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement and continuously improve a robust set of design standards, templates and best practices
  • Recruit and mentor electrical engineering team members that embody Signal Energy's Core Principles
  • Oversee all electrical engineering efforts to ensure deliverables are submitted on time, comply with client and regulatory requirements, meet quality standards, and align with budget and constructability expectations
  • Review Conduct and review electrical engineering designs and studies to develop deliverables and act as Engineer of Record for one or more projects simultaneously
  • Lead, manage, and mentor the electrical design team on the technical delivery of PV and BESS projects
  • Develop, implement and continuously improve a robust set of design standards, templates and best practices
  • Recruit and mentor electrical engineering team members that embody Signal Energy's Core Principles
  • Champion innovation and creativity in design tools, processes and plant technology to keep Signal Energy an industry leader in PV and BESS engineering, procurement and construction
  • Maintain knowledge of current and pending industry codes and standards; incorporate same into design tools and processes
  • Interface with clients and other stakeholders to optimize project design and value; be the go-to expert for technical solutions
  • Support pursuits with input on conceptual designs and engineering budgets
  • Support Operations through resolution of RFIs, field changes and other design-related issues, including technical evaluations of any proposed changes to project design requirements, material specifications or means and methods
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration of civil, structural and high voltage design packages

Attributes and Competencies:
  • Technical expertise in Electrical Engineering, including the preparation and assembling of plans, studies, calculations and specifications.
  • Effective leader focused on developing and empowering team but willing to get "in the trenches" when necessary to meet objectives

  • Driven by desire to continuously improve processes, tools and technology

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Power Engineering.
  • 10+ years of power system design and engineering, including 5+ years in PV or BESS
  • Professional Engineer license (one or more US states)
  • Experience leading a team of engineers and designers
  • Knowledge of NEC, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Proficiency in applicable engineering software including AutoCAD, ETAP, PVSyst/SAM, and relevant electrical system analysis software preferred
  • EPC experience preferred
