These services assess defendants' risk of not appearing in court or committing another offense if released, and often recommend conditions for their release or supervision. Pretrial services may also provide monitoring, drug testing, or support to help ensure compliance with court orders. Their goal is to promote public safety and ensure fair treatment while reducing unnecessary detention before trial.
