What is a prep job?

Prep jobs typically refer to positions in the food service industry where employees are responsible for preparing ingredients and performing basic tasks to help chefs and cooks create dishes efficiently. Duties often include washing, chopping, and measuring ingredients, as well as organizing kitchen stations and keeping the workspace clean. These roles are crucial for maintaining a smooth workflow in commercial kitchens and can be a stepping stone to more advanced culinary positions.

Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment, knife skills, and food handling certifications (such as ServSafe) are typically required. Attention to detail, time management, and teamwork are crucial soft skills for excelling in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
