A Preop Nurse, also known as a Preoperative Nurse, is a registered nurse who specializes in caring for patients before they undergo surgical procedures. Their responsibilities include preparing patients for surgery, conducting preoperative assessments, verifying medical histories, and educating patients about what to expect before, during, and after surgery. They play a critical role in ensuring patient safety and readiness for anesthesia and surgery, and in communicating important information between patients, families, and the surgical team.

What do you do as a pre-op nurse?

A pre-op nurse prepares patients for surgery by assessing their health, reviewing medical histories, and explaining procedures. They ensure patients are stable, administer medications if needed, and coordinate with surgical teams to ensure a safe and smooth transition to the operating room.
