Job description

Baldwin & Shell Construction Company is searching for a Senior Estimator who will thrive in our Northwest Arkansas Team.


Our Senior Estimators are responsible for leading other estimators, estimating efforts, and providing support for our preconstruction services for our projects across multiple market sectors. They manage the bid process, coordinate with customers, design teams, trade partners, and our field teams, and implement the preconstruction plan for our projects. They are also integral in supporting all preconstruction efforts within the division, suggesting and implementing improvement initiatives, and developing project strategies to ensure success. The Senior Estimator reports to the Division Preconstruction Leader.

Responsibilities:

  • Uphold and promote Baldwin & Shell’s Preconstruction & Estimating Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Conduct all business in accordance with the American Society of Professional Estimators Code of Ethics.
  • Participate in all aspects of the preconstruction and estimating process.
  • Manage the bid solicitation processes and assist in maintenance of associated databases.
  • Prepare formal Trade Partner and Supplier bid scope packages for projects.
  • Create project estimates and revisions.
  • Perform quantity takeoff and specification review.
  • Lead and review, analyze, coordinate, and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Lead, coordinate, document, and track preconstruction RFIs.
  • Assist in developing preliminary project schedules and logistics plans.
  • Lead value analysis efforts in support of projects.
  • Provide document management during preconstruction and estimating efforts.
  • Review trade partner proposals for accuracy, scope, and competitiveness.
  • Negotiate with trade partners to find win-win solutions for all stake holders.
  • Correspond with Owners, Design Teams, Trade Partners, and Suppliers as needed to perform estimating duties and to build and maintain relationships.
  • Document work to enable clear communication and auditing to Owners, Architects, and Baldwin & Shell’s Field and Field Office.
  • Assist with capturing and maintaining historic project information.
  • Participate in industry events to build and maintain relationships.
  • Participate in and support preconstruction improvement initiatives.
  • Support and lead other team members through training and assistance.
  • Assign and coordinate bid teams to perform checks between drawings and specifications for discrepancies or omissions and assist when needed.
  • Assist with and coordinate database maintenance of estimating software and database maintenance of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Assist with and coordinate preconstruction calendar.
  • Uphold and promote Baldwin & Shell’s Preconstruction & Estimating Mission, Vision, and Values.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have at least seven (7) years of experience in Commercial Construction Preconstruction or related project management experience.
  • Experience with various project delivery methods including Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) and Design-Bid-Build.
  • Very knowledgeable in construction means and methods, specific trades, and standard scopes of work.
  • Strong ability to work individually and within a team on projects and other initiatives.
  • Very detail oriented and focused on providing accurate information with strong math and analytical skills.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills including presentations, and interactions with trade partners and clients.
  • Strong documentation, organizational and time management skills and the ability to plan towards and meet deadlines.
  • Current driver’s license


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with various preconstruction platforms such as On-Screen Takeoff, BlueBeam, Concntric, and BuildingConnected.
